In Ottesen's words, the song is "a tribute to the beautiful things in life, that you wish would never end". The song's title and refrain are a reference to Swedish progg group Philemon Arthur and the Dung, of which Kaizers Orchestra are admitted fans; the lyrics also makes oblique references to "In kommer Gösta", a song by said group which Kaizers Orchestra had spontaneously covered during a performance of "Kontroll på kontinentet" in Sweden in 2008.

Philemon Arthur & The Dung (La det vara)
Du og meg i en sang
Prøv å grav ner (prøv å grav ner) dine hemmeligheter
Alt du vil at ingen andre skal veta
Og det går år før det du sår kan voksa
Prøv å hold ut for meg då
Philemon Arthur & The Dung (La det vara)
Philemon Arthur & The Dung (La det vara)
Du og meg i en sang
Ding dong
Philemon Arthur & The Dung (La det vara)

The lyrics to “Philemon Arthur & The Dung” by Kaizers Orchestra explore the aftermath of breaking rules and the consequences that come with it. The singer questions what is left after breaking all the boundaries he could and realizing that neither his anger nor passion rule him anymore. He asks the listener who they are left with at this point. The refrain, “La det vara” which translates to “Let it be” in English, repeats throughout the song and emphasizes the idea that sometimes it is better to let go and accept the situation for what it is.
The second verse encourages the listener to try and bury their secrets and hold on, even when it seems like nothing is happening. The bridge of the song brings up the idea of dreams and how they can come true or crash and burn just like anything beautiful. The song ends with a voice at the door, offering coffee to whoever is knocking.
The meaning behind the odd title, “Philemon Arthur & The Dung” is not directly explained in the song. However, the lyrics suggest that the phrase refers to a memory or a story between the singer and the listener. The title may symbolize something unappealing or unpleasant that the singer has overcome.
