Too Much Trouble
Kajagoogoo & Limahl Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've noticed there's a change in your smile.
Oh how you've made your message loud and clear.
But these are not the words that I expected to hear.
Do do do...
You give me, don't give me
Too much to you give me too much trouble
Too much too much too much trouble
Too much too you give me
If you want to try we could just be friends
But please tell me should you have to pretend.
Lovers heartbreaks make the sweetest sounds.
And I can hear you when you are around.
Do do do...
[Repeat... Fade]
You give me, don't give me
Too much Too much Too much trouble
Too much to you give me too much trouble
Too much too much too much trouble
Too much too you give me
The lyrics of "Too Much Trouble" by Kajagoogoo & Limahl describe a relationship where one person has been away for some time and upon returning, the other person notices a change in their smile. The singer acknowledges that the message that their partner is conveying is loud and clear, but it's not what they expected to hear. These lyrics suggest that the partner might be acting in a way that is not in alignment with the expectations of the singer.
The chorus "You give me, don't give me, too much too much too much trouble" seems to suggest that the partner is giving the singer a hard time with their actions or words. The singer then asks if they can just be friends but at the same time, wants their partner to be honest with their feelings. The lyrics talk about how heartbreaks can make the sweetest sounds and the singer can hear their partner when he/she is around, which could mean that the singer still has feelings for their partner despite the trouble they may be causing.
Overall, the lyrics of "Too Much Trouble" showcase a relationship that is not quite fulfilling the expectations of the singer, but they are still willing to give it a shot and work through the issues.

I played the 'Don't Suppose' album until I nearly wore the record out, and this song was one of my favorites on it. But I've just stumbled across the video for the first time. I never knew a video had been made for 'Too Much Trouble'! And it's a fun video, too, as so many 80's videos seemed to be.

This is not good music - but VERY GOOD. The 80s (the song was released in 1984) will remain as one the best musical decades. Nothing to do with the trash of today. As a matter of fact: though Limahl appears in the video as a student, he was 25 at the time. This is one of the greatest songs he sang.
