Overall Meaning

The song "He Mele No" by the Kamehameha Schools Children's Chorus is a beautiful ode to the Hawaiian royalty, Ke Aliʻi wahine or Queen Liliʻuokalani, who was the last monarch of Hawaii. The song starts by expressing gratitude to the Queen for her contribution to the Hawaiian culture and tradition. The lyrics mention her grandeur by referring to her as "ka Wo hi ku," which means "the elegantly standing chief."

The song then talks about the Hawaiian landscape and how the rainbow stretches across the islands from Kauai to "Hawai`i akea" (the vast Hawaii). The lyrics describe the queen's love for her people by saying that she showered them with love and kindness, even during torrential rains and storms. The chorus ends by paying tribute to King Kalakaua, who also held a special place in the hearts of the Hawaiians.

I can't believe this was 2001/2002; those kids are now parents themselves singing that song with their children, how wonderful.

@darflexswolez2266

I don't think they are parents but I think they are in their early-mid 20s

@amandaleon3329

Whats Up right?! I was 11 when this came out and now I’m a mother myself and singing this and playing this movie for my kids☺️
