The Climb
Miley Cyrus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming, but
There's a voice inside my head saying
"You'll never reach it"
Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking
But I, I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down, but
No, I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going
And I, I gotta be strong
Just keep pushing on, 'cause

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb
(Yeah)

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes you're gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb (yeah-yeah-yeah)

Keep on moving
Keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It's all about
It's all about
The climb
Keep your faith
Keep your faith

Whoa-oh

Overall Meaning

In "The Climb," Miley Cyrus talks about following your dreams and persevering through difficult times. Miley sings about a dream she is chasing, but there is a voice in her head telling her she won't make it. She feels as though she is lost and uncertain of what direction to take, and her faith is beginning to waver. However, she knows that she must keep trying and hold her head high.

Miley Cyrus encourages her listeners that there will always be obstacles and challenges hindering us from reaching our goals. It's not about the speed at which we arrive, nor is it about what lies at the finish line. Miley states that what's most important is the journey itself. The struggles we face, the chances we take, and the moments we will remember the most.

Miley teaches us to have faith in ourselves and to keep pushing forward. It's all about the climb, and the effort we put in to reach our goals. It speaks about hope, perseverance, and the belief that we all can accomplish anything if we put our minds to it.

StoryTime : I remember being a teenager/young adult around 18-19 years old
listening to this song while visiting my sister in Germany (we are Greek/from Greece, she was studying abroad!)

it was nighttime already & I just felt so stuck and so far away from my dreams!!!

I remember feeling a sense of urgency and doubt creeping up on me about me potentially
NOT being able to ever fulfill my dreams, wishes and goals in life

mostly due to growing up feeling mostly invisible to my family
and lacking proper support
and just feeling so suffocated & alone (the black sheep/creative/artistic soul in a family of the exact opposite!)

Always felt like I had so much to offer and do with my art but I never had an outlet to funnel creativity and develop my skills

and it was making me feel like I had already failed in life, before I ever got the chance to start pursuing anything!!!

Basically I was so depressed and this song was making me cry from such a deep part of my Soul/Spirit!!!

It felt like the only thing I could cling on and breathe life back into me, was art made by others, (far luckier & more supported than me, like Miley
) wishing I could one day create something of pure essence & of extreme value that gave people hope & strength, exactly how this song was instilling in me!

Little Did I know
how much my life would unfold for the better, moving to the US
only 2 years later in 2011
at age 22 years old & making a LOT of my dreams come true!!!

I’m 34 now
and though I’ve had some amazing creative experiences and expressions, nothing has ever come close to creating something remotely inspiring like this song

But I’m feeling much better and more hopeful about the future and my creativity, than ever before!

The journey and the climb goes on
and here I am, listening to this song again
reminded of how far ive come
with so many ways to go!!!

Stay the path!
Keep the Faith!
Keep Moving

Keep Climbing

These are all timeless, potent words of wisdom that we could all listen to in times of need!

If only Miley would write more songs like this one!

Grateful for her voice & artistry nonetheless!!!
