Champion
Kanye West¿ÏÑÇ¡¤Î¤Ë¹ÌØ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes?)
Yes I did, so I packed it up and brought it back to the crib
Just a lil' somethin' show you how we live
E'r'body want it but it ain't that serious
Mm hm, that's that shit
So if you gon' do it, do it just like this
(Did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes?)
You don't see just how wild the crowd is?
You don't see just how fly my style is?
I don't see why I need a stylist
When I shop so much I can speak Italian
I don't know I just wanted better for my kids
And I ain't sayin' we was from the projects
But every time I want it, layaway or a deposit
My Dad'll say "when you see clothes close ya eyelids"
We was sorta like Will Smith and his son
In the movie I ain't talkin' 'bout the rich ones
'Cause every summer he'll get some
Brand new hare-brained scheme to get rich from
And I don't know what he did for dough
But he'd sent me back to school wit' a new wardrobe and hey!

(Did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes?)
I think he did, when he packed it up and brought it back to the crib
Just a lil' somethin' show you how we live
E'r'thing I wanted man it seemed so serious
Mm hm, that's that shit
So if you gon' do it, do it just like this
(Did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes?)

When it feel like livin's harder than dyin'
For me givin' up's way harder than tryin'
Lauryn Hill say her heart was in Zion
I wish her heart still was in rhymin'
'Cause who the kids gon' listen to? Huh?
I guess me if it isn't you
Last week I paid a visit to the institute
They got the drop out keepin' kids in the school
I guess I'll clean up my act like Prince'll do
If not for the pleasure, least for the principle
They got the CD then got to see me drop gems
Like I dropped out of P.E.
They used to feel invisible
Now they know they invincible

(Did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes?)
This is the story of a champion
Rounders in the mob and they pop the guns
Stand up stand up! Here he comes
Tell me what it takes to be number one?
Tell me what it takes to be number one?
This is the story of a champion
Rounders in the mob and they pop the guns
Stand up stand up! Here he comes
Tell me what it takes to be number one?
Tell me what it takes to be number one?

(Did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes?)
Yes I did, so I packed it up and brought it back to the crib
Just a lil' somethin' show you how we live
E'r'body want it but it ain't that serious
Mm hm, that's that shit

So if you gon' do it, do it just like this
(Did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes?)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kanye West's "Champion" are about embracing one's own success and recognizing that one is a champion in the eyes of others. The song's chorus repeats the line "Did you realize, that you were a champion in their eyes?" The verse describes how Kanye went from being an ordinary person to being a champion, and how he has approached his success. He talks about how being a champion means living life to the fullest and that it is not always necessary to take it too seriously.

The second verse shows Kanye's reflective side and references Lauryn Hill's "Zion" to talk about how sometimes the challenges of life can make it feel like it is easier to give up than to keep trying. However, he encourages himself and others to persevere in the face of adversity because they are champions. The bridge talks about Kanye's experiences connecting with kids who have dropped out of school, and how they have been inspired by his success.

Honestly this is one of the best songs written. I was battling cancer and listened to this this song everyday during Chemo. I was taken chemo 5 days a week for 4-6 hours a day. I did 4 rounds with a couple weeks off in between each round. This song was played at least 5-7 times each day and helped me push through. I am in remission now for just over 18 months and every time I hear this song it brings me back to my fight, and i think no matter what, I can beat anything. Anyone who is battling any form of cancer, depression, grief, doubts, loss or anything this is the FIGHT SONG TO GIVE STRENGTH AND ENCOURANGMENT.

I’m so happy for you!

This song is super inspirational and motivational and can apply to anybody for any situation. It helped me get through a hard semester of school where I was struggling badly and every time I’d listen to this song it helped me work harder and I was able to pass all my classes. There’s a champion in all of us.
