The OED Loves Me Not

Did you ever have a plan, a dream
And think it would be right for you
For a moment in your life, believe
That Heaven would decide for you
That a feeling deep inside will guide you
To a love you'll treasure it's you and I forever
If you will believe
It's really you, It's really me
We're all the things we ever wanted to be
The time is right and you're here tonight
So hold my hand and know that you'll understand
If there is something on your mind, a need
And you feel you want to shake it
Let it go let it fall, leave it
You don't have to chase it
'Cos there's a new world all around you that's so good
Darling and it's made for you
Nothing more you need to do
If you would believe
It's really you, It's really me
We're all the things we ever wanted to be
The time is right and you're here tonight
So hold my hand and know that you'll understand
Our love, love that I've tasted
Now there is love and I ain't gonna waste it
Like I did before
Now I know it's really you it's me
It's really you it's me
It's really you it's me
It's really you
Ah you

I all honesty, I did/do not like a majority of the Carpenters' songs that Richard chose to do.
They were too light and commercial or just stupid (Calling all Occupants..).
I did not like her solo album, either.
But...
Richard was/is a brilliant arranger, and knew how to showcase Karen's amazing voice.
And Karen.... she could sing the phonebook and make it sound fantastic.
I totally defend her desire to do that album her way and release it and let the public vote on its value.
After all, she paid A&M $400,000 to cover the production costs.
She owned it.
I look at it as a vehicle to help her "find herself" instead of being joined at the hip to Richard.
And, who knows, a successful release of that album may have been able to help break her destructive behavior?

Over the years I've come to appreciate Karen's solo album. The more I listen to it the more I like it. There's something about the song "It's Really You" that moves me. I always keep returning to it. It gives me enormous pleasure.

This song is actually quite extensive. The lowest note is Eb3 and the highest note is C#5. It's nearly two octaves. While the song doesn't concentrate on Karen's lower register it does, however, showcase her upper register. Karen demonstrates in this song that she is not limited to those classic "low Carpenters" tones. Karen hits a home run while she sings the high notes in this song with ease and grace.

I wish when Karen decided to go solo that she'd had gone into jazz. Her vocal tone totally compliments jazz imo.

2:36 I love this photo of Karen. She looks absolutely gorgeous. Her voice was like liquid velvet. She was the best female singer in the world.

Thank you, Jacob Prince, for loving Karen Carpenter. I just wanted to thank you although I'm not a relative or former business associate of hers. Your loving Karen indicates that you've got a heart of gold.
