Her mother is Korean and father is Polish. She grew up in New Jersey, went to Dwight-Englewood high school, and attended Oberlin College, but transferred to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Orzolek has been noted for her sense of fashion. All of her costumes are designed by fashion designer and friend Christian Joy. She is also well known for her outrageous antics during live shows. She is known to often spit water or beer, or sometimes grapes into the crowd. Her on-stage antics have been compared to punk legends like Iggy Pop and Patti Smith. In 2003 at The Metro, Sydney, Australia (prior to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' appearance at the Livid festival), she accidentally danced off the stage at a sideshow and reluctantly had to be taken to hospital - a few days later she appeared at the festival in a wheelchair, pushed by Angus Andrew.
She currently lives in Los Angeles, California, in the Silver Lake neighbourhood.
Drown
Karen O Lyrics

And the stars don't doubt me
When the fire's burning blue through you
We're alive inside a flame
And the night's a brighter shade
When the fire's burning blue through you
Please, let me drown
Pool emotes without color
It knows the sea is dark there
Without light, it knows the fire, they can't find it
When the tide pulls away
Not the one you need to save
All the lies, they were coming true with you
So please, let me drown
Please, let me drown
Feel a little light in my shoes
Feel a little light on my feet
Feel a little light in my shoes (light the fire, oh, light the flame)
Light the fire, oh, light the flame
Feel a little light under me (light the fire, oh, light the flame)
Light the fire, oh, light the flame
The lyrics of Karen O & Danger Mouse's song, "Drown," can be interpreted in several ways. The song appears to be about experiencing a significant life event, possibly a relationship, that is both intense and chaotic. The lyrics "when the fire's burning blue through you, we're alive inside a flame" suggests a passionate and dramatic experience. The singer may feel as if they are drowning in their emotions: "please, let me drown." The chorus "feel a little light in my shoes" could indicate a sense of relief or release from the stress and burden of the intense experience.
The song also references the sea and tide, which could represent the unpredictable and constantly changing nature of the situation. The line, "not the one you need to save," may suggest a sense of powerlessness and lack of control. The reference to the pool "knowing the sea is dark there" could also indicate a sense of foreboding or danger in the situation.
Overall, "Drown" is a song about the intense and overwhelming emotions that can come with a significant life experience, and the desire to surrender to those emotions rather than resist them.
