<… Read Full Bio ↴Ballet Kari Kari was founded in 1997 by its actual leader, Lynn Rapu.
He gathered musicians and young people who wanted to dance. He made his proyect and funded grants to purchase the instruments and make a recopilation of historic songs .
The group consolidated as time passed by, since the young artists who wanted to participate had to undercome strict discipline rules. Many abandoned, but more would come in, and actually many of them still are in the group as musicians or dancers. An example are Meherio and her sister Vaiahena, that went for over five years to make their degrees and are now back in the Island working as profesionals, and alternating their job with the dancing.
Its important to point out the the teachings that these youngsters have acquired, since their Director always had the dream that young islanders who otherwise would be kicking around doing nothing could have a space where they could develop, a goal that has been met thanks to this sacrificed and strict group discipline. They are taught to study hard, have good grades at school, go to rehearsals, arrive in time, etc.
Actually Lynn Rapu and his group of musicians and dancers are considered as one of the best representatives, national and worldwide, of the ethnic rapanui people.
Since its beginning they have participated in the Tapati Rapanui, a yearly event organized by the Town Hall of Easter Island
