As a songwriter, Bonoff's songs have been interpreted by other artists such as "Home" by Bonnie Raitt, "Tell Me Why" by Wynonna Judd, "Isn't Always Love" by Lynn Anderson. Also Linda Ronstadt has successfully recorded a number of her songs, including, "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me," "Trouble Again," "All My Life," "Falling Star" and "Goodbye My Friend," thus helping to introduce Bonoff to a larger audience.
In her early career, Bonoff sang background vocals for Linda Ronstadt and Wendy Waldman before releasing her debut album in 1977, titled Karla Bonoff (1977). Her other albums include Restless Nights (1979), Wild Heart of the Young (1982), New World (1988), and All My Life (a greatest hits collection) in 1999. Bonoff is best known as a songwriter, but she is also noted for her hit recording of "Personally", which reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1982. She also recorded "Standing Right Next To Me" on the "8 Seconds" movie soundtrack (1994) and "Somebody's Eyes" on the "Footloose" soundtrack (1984).
Karla's first live album was released in September 2007. This double CD includes many of her hits performed live in concert on October 24, 2004 (except for one song recorded July 30, 2005). She is backed by her touring band including Kenny Edwards (guitar, bass, mandolin, cello, vocals) and Nina Gerber (guitar) plus long time associate Scott Babcock (drums and vocals).
She is also a member of the currently inactive group Bryndle, which includes Wendy Waldman and Kenny Edwards. The band has also included Andrew Gold who left the band in 1996. The group had released three albums between 1995 and 2002.
Her songs recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Wynonna Judd, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, she herself hit 19 on the top 100 singing "Personally" written by P. Kelly. A writer from the heart, collaborated with Pete Seger and Frank Hamilton on "The Water is Wide." Although she released just four studio albums in her first 30 years as a recording artist, in 2007 she issued a well-received live album.
New World

Of all the places we can't see
Fly over oceans wide
Do all the things we never tried
And isn't it strange how you can go
Back to a home you've never known
It's like you were there before
A place you've been searching for
The new world waits inside your dream
And your heart leads the way
Isn't it nice to feel so free
And love the way love's supposed to be
Never with hurt or pain
And never with something else to gain
And isn't it strange it seems so clear
That you have nothing here to fear
But somehow the morning light
Fades all the things you see at night
The new world waits inside your dream
And your heart knows the way
But isn't it nice to let it go
On to the life you'll someday know
And let the real world fade away
Once you're there
You'll know that you're inside
You can't turn back
When you open your eyes
The new world waits inside your dream
And your heart knows the way
But isn't it nice to let it go
On to the life you'll someday know
And let the real world fade away
Isn't it nice to let it go
On to the life your soul will know
And let the real world fade away
"New World" by Karla Bonoff is a song that explores the theme of imagination and the power of dreams to transport us to places and experiences we have never had before. The song describes a longing for adventure and a desire to experience the world beyond the limitations of the physical realm. The opening verse emphasizes the significance of imagination, dreaming and the power that they hold. The singer explores the prospect of flying through this vast world that we cannot see, doing things that they have never done before, and experiencing life to its fullest. In the second verse, the song stresses the idea of freedom, and how love should be without any pain or hidden motives. The song reveals the thought that even if it seems effortless to accomplish what we dream, it may take us some time to get there.
The chorus suggests that the world is waiting for people to discover it and that our hearts hold the key. This portrays the notion that we must follow our hearts to lead us into this new world beyond our imagination. The bridge implies that when we reach our new world, it is a point of no return; thus, we should enjoy the experiences and not let the physical world that we come from, hold us back. The song ends on a high note with a sense of freedom, and a call to allow our souls to find the life we seek and let the actual world fade away.
Overall, "New World" portrays an imaginative world that holds limitless possibilities, away from the limitations of our physical world. The song suggests that we can follow our hearts and experience uncharted territories in the new world that awaits dormant inside our dreams.

At long last! I finally found this song! Have been searching for this for 30 years now. Used to hear this on Y101 FM back in college, it was around the time Brenda Russell's "Piano in the Dark" and Oleta Adams' "Get Here" were getting a lot of airplay. I only remembered her first name but thought it was spelled as "Carla", I kept typing "A New World by Carla" and kept coming up with blank. Sheesh!
