Paint it Black
Karsu Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No colors any more, I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see the line of cars, they're all painted black
With flowers and my love, both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door, I must have it painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black
Karsu's song "Paint It Black" is a cover of The Rolling Stones' hit from the 1960s. The song delves into the singer's emotions and state of mind, as she visualizes a world devoid of colors. She wants everything to be painted black, including her red door, which she mentions repeatedly in the song. The lyrics "I see your red door, I want it painted black" are a metaphor for the singer's desire for change and transformation. She wants to obliterate anything that reminds her of her past, and start anew.
The singer believes that painting everything black will make her heartache disappear. She describes how she feels like an outsider as she sees the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes. The singer suggests that her darkness is a burden she has to bear and that it affects every aspect of her life. The line "It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black" is a powerful statement that sums up the main theme of the song. The singer is struggling with herself and is looking for a way to overcome her despair and move on.
