Cutt Off
Kasabian Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

John was a scientist, he was hooked on LSD
Interested in mind control and how the monkey held the key
Said that all life is experiments somebody's planning for the heir
It's for the unexpected citizens who hallucinate in fear.
Sing that.

Chew the backbone,
A solar system, these clever convicts

In union station, with a package in his hand
Tied to the suspect, he chanced him where he stand
And I don't think you realize he's coming for your neck
And the sound is breaking all around
He's keeping lives in check

Chew the backbone, a solar system, these clever convicts

Making his getaway threw a punched out mirror
He blend into the crowd, hear the system scream
And all those spies that strikes your head
Are clinging to their guns
And if you smell those omens man, I think you better run.

Checkout.

Chew the backbone, a solar system, these clever convicts.

Overall Meaning

The song "Cutt Off" by Kasabian narrates the story of John, a scientist who was fascinated with the concept of LSD and its ability to control the human mind. He believed that life itself was an experiment, and someone was planning for the future generations, which is meant to create a sense of fear and anxiety in people. The influence of LSD is evident in his perception of reality, and he thinks that even the citizens around him are a part of an experiment. The lyrics "hallucinate in fear" represent the effect of the society's anxiety on one's perception.

The next verses describe John's encounter with a suspect in Union Station, and he warns the people of the danger they are in. The lyrics "And I don't think you realize he's coming for your neck/ And the sound is breaking all around/ He's keeping lives in check" portray the chaos around and the menace approaching. Chew the backbone refers to the idea of survival and the strength necessary to bear the pressure of everyday life. The solar system symbolizes the vastness around us, and the clever convicts refer to the people who know how to use the resources around themselves.

After the hustle and bustle, the criminal makes a run for it and escapes after breaking a mirror. The lyrics "And if you smell those omens man, I think you better run" indicate that the event had far-reaching consequences, and the repercussions would soon be felt. In conclusion, these lyrics profoundly analyze the human mind, societal pressures, and the ability of LSD to influence our perception of reality.

I love every single Kasabian song, but I think this one is my most favourite.

@blueblousedesigns

I like the beat to this one, because it has a certain flow to it

That 1st line!

I love how Kasabians music gets better as it goes on because Serge is one of the most experimental artists to ever exist but know how to keep grounded with that sound that catches your ear. What a fucking band

@thegatsbypodcast2512

They lost a lot when Chris Karloff left. Kasabian benefitted from it with West Ryder and Velociraptor!, which are both brilliant albums. But ever since 48:13, it's really felt like they've been missing something.

Dan the Automator, who produced West Ryder and Velociraptor!, is a seriously unsung hero. He's the one who gave them the sleezy but raw Gorillaz-esque vibes that went on to define Kasabian's sound.

And Tom is gone so the band has no reason to still exist
