Liberation
Katatonia᠀ Lyrics

And cold is the wait for nothing
And dark
I write my name in a long line
How is it possible for you to try
It's coming true
I've changed my name but I will pass it on to you
Journey
No present thoughts
Coming day
Darkest wave
[Chorus:]
It's coming true
I've changed my name but I will pass it on to you
Our thoughts entwined
You speak
And I hear other words behind
I wave from the edge of the pier
And fade into dreams of sleepers
Marked
I have had this stain for a long time
We called on the bird long before
[Chorus:]
In the opening lines of Katatonia's song "Liberation," it appears as though the singer is describing a sense of emptiness or detachment. The phrase "sold are the eyes I have" suggests the idea of someone who has given up or lost their ability to see things clearly. The following line "And cold is the wait for nothing" reinforces this idea of feeling distant and removed from the world. As the singer writes their name in a long line, there is a sense of loneliness and isolation, as if they are trying to assert their identity in a void.
However, as the song progresses, a sense of hope emerges. The lyrics "It's coming true, I've changed my name but I will pass it on to you" suggest a kind of rebirth or renewal, as if the singer has shed an old identity and is now passing on a new one to someone else. The chorus reinforces this idea of change and interconnectedness, as their thoughts become entwined with someone else's. In the bridge, the singer appears to be saying goodbye to the world, but not before they acknowledge the "stain" they have carried with them for a long time.
Overall, "Liberation" seems to be a song about transformation and the idea that we are never truly alone, even in moments of darkness and isolation.

Its really odd that in all my life I didn't found a single katatonia fan. I like all types of music and I was completely stunned when I found katatonia, it's so perfect, the quality of their music it's so high, every minute of the track, the combination of all the sounds, the vocals and the rest of the album are just equally stunning, I've never felt like this to a band.

Drumming on this track is ridiculously underappreciated. The careful implementation of softer dynamics, the use of displacement, the choice of cymbals and fills to add to the depth and variety that this song has...so good.

"I wave from the edge of the pier And fade into dreams of sleepers" Katatonia's lyrics paint the best visuals.

They are quite amazing. Especially their last few albums. Production seemed to go up a notch and Jonas' vocals did too. They're completely captivating.

Geez. I find this song like once every 4 years. Like a friend you rarely get to see, but never lose contact with.
