Davis has been involved with music from an early age, having picked up the violin when she was only five, which became her musical outlet until a move to the Pacific Northwest exposed her to the jazz scene, after which the upright bass and vocals became her rhythmic and melodic muse.
A vibrant and supportive music community in Portland, Oregon helped Davis throughout her musical career, urging her to perform and improve her talents. During high school, she garnered national recognition, receiving a YoungARTS silver award from NFAA (National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts), received four Downbeat Magazine Student Awards, was twice invited to the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony, and was a bassist in the Grammy Jazz Ensemble. As well, she was selected as a Presidential Scholar of the Arts, which her saw her visit the White House, and perform at The Kennedy Center. (that performance can be seen here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpxI3GMi298)
Davis started composing, writing, and arranging, and began performing her original works, as well as arranging the tracks on her records. An arrange of Rachmaninovs Symphonic Dances got her another from Downbeat Magazine.
Davis was recognized by MTV as one of the "Fifteen Fresh Females to Rule Pop" in 2014.
Her albums include Introducing Kate Davis (2008), A Kate Davis Holiday (2009), Live at Jimmy Mak's (2010), Trophy (2019)
Consequences

My wallet and my keys in a cab in the city
So I got
Down on my knees, crying out to a corporate deity
A black hole
Was tearing into me where my heart had forgotten about fragility
And tenderness and your absentee
Just going through the motions of
One big self sabotaging empty bitch
It's scary to realize the reasons why you wanna die
And that you would spare them of the consequences
(Spare them of the consequences)
On the shore
The medium told me I will grind for eternity
And what's more
I'll never be rid of a hex that my ex's mom put on me
I melt down
In this cheap plastic chair where my heart had forgotten
That you were near to me
And waiting there ever patiently
Without being emotional
Just going through the motions of
One big self sabotaging empty bitch
It's scary to realize the reasons why you wanna die
And that you would spare them of the consequences
(Spare them of the consequences)
Here lies, dead eyes
Lilly white is surprised
But you're not on the guestlist, baby
General malaise and a needy gaze
Nothing wants anymore, nothing hurts anymore
When you're not
A second thought
Without being emotional
Just going through the motions of
One big self sabotaging empty bitch
It's scary to realize the reasons why you wanna die
And that you would spare them of the consequences
Spare them of the consequences
The lyrics to Kate Davis's song "Consequences" explore themes of vulnerability, self-sabotage, and the fear of confronting one's own emotions. The singer starts by recounting a situation where they forgot their wallet and keys in a taxi in the city. This momentary lapse of forgetfulness leads to a deep emotional crisis, symbolized by a "black hole" tearing into their heart. The singer feels a sense of fragility and tenderness that they have neglected, possibly due to the absence of someone important in their life.
The song continues with the singer reflecting on their emotional state and how they are merely going through the motions, feeling like an "empty bitch" who self-sabotages. The lyrics express the terrifying realization of wanting to die and yet, in a contradictory manner, wanting to spare others the consequences of their actions. This internal conflict exposes the singer's deep-seated fear of the impact their own actions might have on others.
Moving forward, the lyrics metaphorically describe a meeting with a medium who predicts a life of eternal struggle and being unable to break free from an alleged hex. The singer feels a sense of melting down, being consumed by their emotions, as they sit in a cheap plastic chair. They acknowledge that in their heart, they had forgotten that someone important, possibly a loved one, was always there for them, patiently waiting.
The final part of the song presents a shift in perspective. The singer realizes that they are no longer the center of someone's thoughts or desires. They describe themselves as "dead eyes" and acknowledge the surprise that they are not included on someone's guestlist. This realization leads to a general feeling of apathy and a decreased need for anything or anyone. The song ends by reiterating the conflicting emotions of wanting to die but also wanting to spare others the consequences of their actions.
Overall, "Consequences" delves into the complexities of human emotions, self-doubt, and the inner battles we may face. It touches on themes of vulnerability, self-sabotage, and the fear of both personal and interpersonal consequences.

Amongst all the Heavy Metal, hardcore punk that I listen to, I manage to enjoy Kate Davis and I'm not afraid to admit it. She's amazing.

I think I figured out why... as one metalhead to another: She's authentic, not filtered pop bullshit. Not overpolished, she plays instruments and is fucking OOZING with talent! She fits in the metal scene perfectly if she ever wanted to be part of it lol

I'm 41 now and I grew up on a lot of stuff like that myself, but now my musical tastes are so wide and different, who wants to eat just two things for dinner? haha Music is like food to me - I wanna try it all and love it all.
