Voegele began gaining interest from record labels and management companies after recording a series of demos. The first demo "The Other Side" (released in 2003) was produced by multi-platinum, award winning producer Michael Seifert. Her second demo "Louder Than Words" (released in 2004) was produced by Marshall Altman. Kate signed a record deal with Myspace Records in 2006 and released her debut album "Don't Look Away" (produced by Marshall Altman) in May of 2007.
Kate Voegele recently began a recurring guest spot in six episodes of The CW television series "One Tree Hill" on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. Voegele plays Mia, a young singer and keyboardist for a rock band fronted by Jason (Kevin Federline). After Peyton (Hilarie Burton) signs the band to her upstart record label and becomes increasingly frustrated with Jason's attitude, she eventually drops him and the rest of the band, but retains Mia as a developing new artist at the insistence of Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti), who is somewhat well-versed in the music industry as well. Mia performs songs on the series from Voegele's real-life debut album "Don't Look Away" including "Kindly Unspoken" in her very first episode.
Kate Voegele performed several songs from her debut album "Don't Look Away" on the The Early Show, Saturday, February 2, 2008 on CBS television network nationally. Kate's band member Sam provided backup vocals and beat box support while Mark played the bass guitar.
In the spring, Kate embarked on a world-wind tour, opening up for the rock band Hanson on their 2008 Walk Tour and gaining a reputation in the music business that will surely be worth remembering.

I Get It
Kate Voegele Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I have been outdone by my own kind
I always traded up, yeah
Now I'm a victim for the first time
And I can't pretend I'm not over the edge
[Chorus]
You turned the tables on me, didn't you?
My, my, my it only serves me right, now I Get It
This is how hurt feels
And it's everything they say it is
I was untouchable
Until karma crashed my party
Found out I'm crushable, oh
And I'm the only one who's sorry
It's unprecedented, I can't turn the page
[Chorus]
No, no, no don't you go
I do all the breaking up around here
No, no, no don't steal my show
You should be the one crying these tears
Well, well baby, what do you know
You turned the tables on me, didn't you?
My, my, my it only serves me right, now I Get It
This is how a heart breaks
And it's all it's cracked up to be
[Chorus]
The first verse of the song emphasizes the theme of karma - the idea that actions have consequences. The singer admits that she has always been selfish, always aiming to trade up in her relationships. However, now she finds herself on the receiving end of being used and mistreated by others. This is a new experience for her, and she can't pretend to not be affected by it.
In the chorus, the singer acknowledges that she's been humbled by her experiences. She's been on the other side of the equation and now understands the pain of being hurt. The line "my, my, my it only serves me right" is quite telling - the singer recognizes that she had it coming all along. She's learning that what goes around comes around, and that hurt is not to be taken lightly.
The second verse is a continuation of the theme of consequences. The singer laments that she thought she was untouchable, but karma had other plans. She admits to being "the only one who's sorry" - no one else is to blame for her situation. The line "It's unprecedented, I can't turn the page" suggests that she's struggling to move on from the pain and is learning that actions have consequences.
Overall, the song seems to be a reflection on personal growth. The singer is learning a hard lesson about the effects of her actions, and despite the pain she's feeling, she acknowledges that it's a necessary step in her maturation.
