I just don't know
What you're looking for
Why don't you
Try explaining
And maybe this time we can be more than a
Simple acquaintance
Or a random knock on the door
I'll make it
And that you're really not worth the troubling over
Maybe you're not one in a million
You're as common as everyone else
Baby you're not that one in a million
Why why can't i see it tell me?
Why am i kneeling?
I cry
But not alone and not in the night
I'm brighter than light and I've shown you
What my inside is like
But you still can't tell me you choose to shut me out of your life
Oh, you're so clever and always manage to win the last bite
Maybe you're not one in a million
You're as common as everyone else
Baby you're not that one in a million
Why why can't i see it tell me?
Why am I kneeling?
Boy, you're not one in a million
Why why can't i see it tell me?
Why am I kneeling?
Boy, I'm that one in a million
But you can't see it...
The lyrics of "One In A Million" by Katerine Duska speak to the frustration of unreciprocated love. The singer is addressing someone who she has feelings for, but is unclear on the nature of their relationship. She pleads with this person to explain what they want from her, in the hopes that they can become more than strangers or occasional acquaintances. The singer also expresses her exasperation with the mixed signals she is receiving from the other person. Despite all of this, she cannot help but hold on to the hope that she might be seen as special in their eyes, that she might indeed be "one in a million."
Throughout the song, there is a sense of desperation and longing in the singer's words. She is clearly invested in this other person, both emotionally and psychologically, and yet she is unsure of where she stands with them. The repeated refrain of "Why can't I see it?" suggests that the singer is struggling to come to terms with the reality of the situation, that the person she is enamored with may not feel the same way.
Overall, "One In A Million" offers a poignant look at unrequited love and the complicated emotions that come with it. It captures the feelings of hope, confusion, and heartbreak that many people experience when they fall for someone who may not feel the same way.
