Baby, what would they say
They've been a witness to all of the pain
I gave you everything I had to give
Now I'm so empty 'cause you had your fill
You took the light from my face
The more you try to tell me that you've changed, the more I feel
If this is how you try to make it up to me then lets
Just end it
I don't like this feeling anymore
I don't like this feeling
'Cause whenever I'm around you boy I know that I won't be respected
Just neglected
All that I wanted was you by my side
But you walked in front of me all of the while
Nothing that I ever did was good enough
Well thank you baby 'cause you made me tough
Now I can go on my way
On my way
The more you try to tell me that you've changed, the more I feel
Neglected
If this is how you try to make it up to me then lets
Just end it
I don't like this feeling anymore
I don't like this feeling
'Cause whenever I'm around you boy I know that I won't be respected
Just neglected
I never saw it coming
I should have kept on running
But instead I was there by your side
Believing in all of your lies
(How could you neglect me
Straight up disrespect me)
How could you
(How could you neglect my love)
How could you neglect my love
(How could you neglect me
Straight up disrespect me
How could you neglect my love)
How could you neglect my love
The more you try to tell me that you've changed, the more I feel
Neglected (the more you try to change, the more I feel neglected)
If this is how you try to make it up to me then lets
Just end it (we need to just end it)
I don't like this feeling anymore
I don't like this feeling
'Cause whenever I'm around you boy I know that I won't be respected
Just neglected
How could you neglect me
Straight up disrespect me
How could you neglect my love
How could you neglect me
Straight up disrespect me
How could you neglect my love
(How could you)
How could you neglect me
Straight up disrespect me (you)
How could you neglect my love
(How could you)
How could you neglect me
Straight up disrespect me
How could you neglect my love
In Katharine McPhee's song "Neglected," the songwriter sings of a past love that left her feeling empty and neglected. The first verse sets up the scene by envisioning what the walls of the room they shared would say if they could talk. The walls have witnessed all the pain and suffering that the singer had to endure when she gave everything she had to give, only to be left feeling empty when her partner took all the light from her face. As much as her ex-partner tries to convince her that they have changed, the more she feels neglected, leading her to want to end the relationship.
The second verse reveals that the singer wanted her partner to be by her side, but he kept walking in front of her, leading her to feel like nothing she ever did was good enough. However, this experience made her tough and able to go on her way. The chorus repeats the idea that the more her partner tries to change or make it up to her, the more neglected she feels. The bridge asks the question of how someone could neglect and disrespect another person in the relationship, leading to the end of the song.
Overall, "Neglected" addresses the emotional turmoil of loving someone who fails to recognize your worth in the relationship. It conveys the pain of feeling forgotten, underappreciated, and unwanted despite trying to give everything in the relationship.
