August
Kathleen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

his name was August
and he came in like a flood
he whirled around and roud and
drowned me up in every kind of love

he took me over
he took me to the world
he took me in and out
and up until I was a different girl

that's not what I was told when
I learned how to love you
'cause I was never taught that
perfect love could end

he stands right beside me
but he's farther than the sun
but his light still keeps me warm
it still keeps me burned

that's not what I was told when
I learned how to love you
'cause I was never taught that
perfect love could end

and now that's it's over
all I can seem to think
is how to love someone
with every part of me

cause that’s what I was told when
I learned how to love you
'cause I was never taught that
perfect love could end

that's not what I was told when
I learned how to love you

'cause I was never taught that
perfect love could end

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kathleen's song "August" tell a story of a transformative romantic experience with a person named August. August comes into the singer's life like a flood, overwhelming her with different kinds of love and changing her into a different person. This whirlwind romance is intense and all-encompassing, with August taking her to new heights and depths of emotion.

Despite the depth of their connection, the singer reflects on how her previous understanding of love did not prepare her for the possibility of a perfect love coming to an end. The notion of love being everlasting and unwavering is shattered by the experience with August, leaving her to grapple with the aftermath of a love that ended unexpectedly.

The singer describes August as still being present in her life, symbolized by his proximity yet emotional distance. His light continues to provide warmth and comfort but also burns, serving as a reminder of the intense emotions that were shared during their time together. The conflicting feelings of closeness and distance highlight the complexity of love and its lingering impact even after it has ended.

As the song concludes, the singer contemplates how to love someone fully and completely, with every part of herself. The experience with August has left her questioning and reevaluating her approach to love, determined to love wholeheartedly despite the fear of another perfect love coming to an end. The lyrics capture the bittersweet realization that love is not always as perfect or enduring as we are taught, but the willingness to continue loving deeply remains despite the heartbreak.

This one has actually been around for a while, during her rebrand from kate brady to kathleen she deleted this video along eith a few others. Very glad to see its return!

@permanent_daydreamer

What were the other videos?

@trulyadmirable7982

Ethan Lewis Ethan Lewis she had a song called sailing ships I think, along with some random irl vlog style songs that were no longer than two minutes. After deleting most of them, her channel description stated those videos had gone into hibernation of some sorts, and that she would release them again in their spring. She deleted her old tweets too. On Twitter, she said she had been through a whole lot of shit last year so my guess is she deleted them during that.
