Actually, it seemed pretty clear in the final movie. It takes place in a backwards time where everyone is superstitious and idiotic, and thus they would be inclined to believe in magic (which doesn't actually exist) and that it's evil.

Actually, given the controversy over books like Harry Potter, we are no better today.

I don't think the villagers were scared of Elsa specifically, but were just reacting to her fear/spiky ice fountain/out of control ice shots. It was only the Duke who outright condemned her just because she had magic and tried to attack/get others to attack her.

This is the first time I'm hearing of one of the original story ideas for Frozen, regarding this whole prophecy thing.

I'm rather curious how the movie would've ended up if it had followed the original screenplay. Hmm...maybe if they do a Broadway adaptation like they did with other Disney movies, they can try the original idea?

Darker than Bambi's mom, Mufasa, Dumbo's mom. Disney is the darkest happy company in existence because they make you forget about all the subtle mental scars they leave you with unlike some other movies. (Looks at Brave Little Toaster clown scene). Making Elsa a villain isn't too dark for them.

I personally liked the idea of the prophecy. I felt like it gave a lot of character to the movie. I also liked the idea of "Evil" Elsa as well. It really upset me as well that a cut scene aka the blizzard scene with Christoph, Olaf, and Anna, with Elsa on top of the hill making a storm was used in the trailer yet didn't make it because Evil Elsa wasn't a thing. Many of us liked it and in fact that was why most of us watched the movie when it came out because we expected that scene.

They also played up Elsa and Anna's isolation from each-other more in the final cut than in development (see the cut song Life's Too Short where they act more like, well, sisters than in the final film). This song is from a version of the story where Anna and Elsa were already well acquainted to each-other by the song's start.

I could have done without Olaf's song in the final film. I love Olaf and everything but his song didn't seem necessary (though I know this is ultimately a kids movie and they probably liked his song). I think I would have rather had this as well as we know better. We Know Better could have given a bit more attention to Anna And Elsa's previous relationship, followed by the accident, resulting in Elsa being very distant with everyone, then she watches this and just feels even worse. I feel like the prophecy could be removed and just keep it for the general attitude the people of Arendelle have for winter. All of this would have made Elsa's isolation and inevitable outburst a lot more powerful.

The thing is Hans, as murderous as he is, is a good ruler. When he was left to take care of Arendelle he did so very well. I would argue that this harms his cold-heartedness enough to make such script a bit weird.

the mermaid prince I agree. He’s a terrible person with the whole attempted murder thing, but did take care of everyone. Although the prophecy did say a ruler will plunge the kingdom into eternal winter. If Hans got away with his plan, and killed Elsa, how would they stop the winter? So yeah A ruler, however good at running a kingdom, with a theoretical frozen heart, indirectly kept the land in eternal winter, because Of desperate action to steal the throne

Oh, I get it. So the original script had the trolls prophesying that a ruler with a frozen heart would curse the land. Elsa's powers are hidden and everyone thinks she's amazing and perfect so therefore Anna feels "like a spare" and then during Elsa's coronation she ends up fulfilling the prophecy (from what I've heard of the other deleted songs, it seems like she did it more on purpose). I'm guessing Elsa was meant to be a darker more villainous character and look more like the early concept where she had the headdress and fur coat.

Well, last year, when I read about the original plot. Elsa was supposed to be much more evil and she was supposed to purposely freeze Anna's heart and that's the exact reason why Anna embarked on her journey, to get Elsa to unfreeze her heart, not to make up with her and bring back summer.

Very early on Elsa was going to be the villain. At the time this song was written Elsa would have been more of a morally ambiguous character, not evil but not the gentle soul we see in the final version. Her winter curse would still be an accident but as heard in "Life's Too Short", she doesn't feel bad about it because she resents the people of Arendelle and her parents for making her feel like she was a caged prisoner.

I would have liked to see that in the movie. Y'know, it would have been a plus as to why SPOILER the king and queen decided to keep Anna and mostly Elsa inside the castle after that accident. SPOILER It could have been some foreshadowing, too, and then with adding "Life's Too Short" it would have turned out actually good, in my opinion.

I see the part where the kids start laughing as anna playing around in the audience and distracting them, and after the director tells them to focus, Anna tries to pull Elsa on stage and that's when she pulls her glove off and the ice goes everywhere.

okay... this makes the story closer to the actual snow queen fairy tale and the song is cute, but if elsa were a bit cruel and went around freezing people and following another cliché prophecy, it would've just been another same old Disney movie, nothing refreshing. I like how they made Elsa lovable and an antihero instead of a villain like most ice queens are. They made her truly tragic, relatable, independent, kind, and selfless in a way no other Disney character has ever been crafted. I like the way they did it, and I don't think I would've liked the film as much as I did had they kept it this way with the whole 'prophecy' thing. because honestly what has made me come to love this movie so much is 'let it go', duh and the complexity of elsa's character. Without it, I still would've liked the movie, but I wouldn't have been enthralled in it as I was. Good decision to cut this pretty song and mix up the Disney status quo.

With the "sword sacrifice" bit, I imagine that in the original version of the film Hans would have interpreted the prophecy to say that if he killed Elsa with a sword it would bring back summer. The actual "sword sacrifice" would have been when Anna jumped in front of the sword to save her sister, and that would have unfrozen the world instead of Elsa just realizing saying "oh I can unfreeze it with love". I think overall I like taking out the prophecy stuff, but it probably would have made for a better ending.

if this song was on the movie it would have explaned me ALOT. and about "life's too short" i prefer "the first time in forever reprise" but at the end of the song anna and elsa should have fight a little bit and then at the end say "" maybe you ARE the prophecy". that would have been just so awesome

It's nice to hear these songs, especially since a huge complaint about the film from a few critics and otherwise was the "plot holes". Personally, I didn't see many that weren't Disney plot holes in general but it's nice to know that it was a prophecy that was carried out via Elsa. But instead of having a back story about it, we hear "Frozen Heart" at the beginning singing about it. That's what made Frozen unique in that everything was spelled out through the performance.

Wow, it's really neat to see how much different a film Frozen was in some early drafts, and picking out some things that seemed to have remained. The whole "eternal winter" lines in the film bothered me because nothing really implied the winter was eternal... the existence of a prophecy in earlier drafts makes me think the terminology seemed to have outlived its source.

What Disney should do is use all these song and make a different Frozen movie. That be cool.
I mean they show so much of how the movie started and some of this stuff into the actual movie like when Hans was going to kill Elsa with his sword. "Then all will perish in snow and ice! Unless you are freed with a sword sacrifice!"
So much can be gained from this, and the outtakes piratically make a completely different movie.

I think they could have included this song and pulled off the prophecy thing but still kept Elsa as a troubled character rather than a villain. To do this, the prophecy could have been known all around the kingdom, and once it was revealed that Elsa was the "villain" of the prophecy, people could have shunned her and she'd have run off like she did in the film. Her fear would have built up over the years because she too knows of the prophecy and fears what would ever happen to her. Anna still could have ventured out to go and recall her sister despite of what the citizens of Arendelle say, and she still would have been the one to be struck. However, Elsa would have seen and recognized she'd hit her sister and then fear would have taken her over again, leading her to believe she really was the monster of the prophecy. The trolls would, with this new plot, become more important and their appearance in the film would make more sense (because to be honest, their appearance in the film seemed really unnecessary) however this would possibly eliminate Hans as a character, and so that plot would be lost. I'd say it would be a fair trade and a better outcome at that.
