Crazy
Katie Noonan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space

And when you're out there
Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Does that make me crazy
Possibly

And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice

Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you're in control

Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart to Lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them
Ever since I was little, ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy

Maybe we're crazy
Possibly

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Katie Noonan's "Crazy" are an insightful and introspective expression of someone trying to make sense of their own emotional state. In the song, Noonan recounts a time when she lost touch with reality and felt herself slipping into madness. She describes the sensation of being lost in a place where everything was pleasant and emotions had an echo that reverberated through space. In retrospect, she realizes that she knew too much, which led to her losing touch with reality. However, she questions whether her perception of reality is the same as the norm and wonders what it means to be crazy.

The chorus of the song repeats a rhetorical question, "does that make me crazy?" as Noonan grapples with what it means to be insane. She then implores the listener to take heed of her advice, urging them to consider whether they are really in control of their life. She concludes the song by reflecting on her heroes who lived their lives fearlessly and admits to wanting to join them on this path, even if it means losing her mind in the process.

This is perfection. Soft... romantic... only a genius could do that.

Have had the pleasure of seeing Katie play live regularly for nearly 20 years, from festival and pub gigs with george in the mid 90s to Elixir to more recent solo Recital Centre performances. Probably the purest voice I have ever heard. Always mesmerising.
