She is acknowledged as one of the most important blues artists of her generation.
Webster was initially best known as a session musician behind Louisiana musicians on the Excello and Goldband record labels, such as Lightnin' Slim and Lonesome Sundown. She also played piano with Otis Redding in the 1960s, but after his death, went into semi-retirement. During her career, she was duet partner to many stars, among them B. B. King, Robert Cray and Rockin' Sidney. Her long professional relationship with the Alligator Records label is also worthy of noting.
In the 1980s, she was repeatedly booked for European tours and recorded albums for the German record label, Ornament Records. She cut You Know That's Right with the band Hot Links, and the album that established her in the United States; The Swamp Boogie Queen with guest spots by Bonnie Raitt and Robert Cray. She performed at both the San Francisco Blues Festival and Long Beach Blues Festival.
Webster suffered a stroke in 1993 while touring Greece and returned to performing the following year. She died from heart failure in League City, Texas, in September 1999.

The song "Who's Making Love?" by Katie Webster is a cautionary tale for men who take their women for granted. The lyrics are a warning to men that while they are out "makin' love" with other women, their own partners may be doing the same with someone else. The chorus, which is repeated several times throughout the song, asks the question: "Who's making love with your old lady, while you were out makin' love?" The tone of the song is one of regret, as the singer admits that she used to be just like the men she is warning. She urges them to "think about it twice" and not take their partners for granted, because they may end up losing them to someone else.
The verses of the song are structured around a simple chord progression, which is repeated throughout. The verses are sung in a soulful, bluesy style, with the singer warning the men to be careful with their women. The song is a classic example of the blues genre, which often deals with themes of love, loss, and heartbreak. The lyrics are simple and direct, with a catchy chorus that is easy to sing along to. The song is a reminder that love is not something to be taken for granted, and that we should always appreciate our partners and treat them with respect.
