Can you tell me where we heading?
Lincoln county road or armageddon?
Seems like I been down this way before
Is there any truth in that, senor?
Senor, senor
Do you know where she's hiding?
How long must I keep my eyes glued to the door?
Will there be any comfort here, senor?
There's a wicked wind still blowing on that upper deck
There's an iron cross still hanging from around her neck
There's a marching band still playing in their vacant lot
Where she held me in her arms one time and said forget what we got
Senor, senor
I can see the painted wagon
Smell the tail of a dragon
I can't stand the suspense anymore
Can you tell me who to contact here, senor?
Well the last thing I remember before I stripped and kneeled
Was a train load full of fools bogged down in a magnetic field
And a gypsy, with a broken flag and a flashing ring
He says, -son this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing
Senor, senor
You know their hearts are hard as leather
Give me a minute, let me get it together
Gotta pick myself up off the floor
I'm ready when you are, senor
Señor, señor
Let's overturn these tables
Disconnect these cables
This place don't make sense to me no more
Can you tell me what we're waiting for, senor?
Seems like I been down this way before
Is there any truth in that, señor?
The lyrics of Katy Moffatt’s song Hearts Gone Wild express a sense of confusion and uncertainty. The singer is seeking guidance from an unnamed character referred to as “Señor” about their whereabouts and future. They are unsure if they are headed towards a better place or Armageddon. The repetition of "Señor, Señor" indicates the urgency in the singer's tone as they seek to unravel the mystery of their journey. The singer also seeks to know the whereabouts of a woman, asking if Señor knows where she is hiding, and for how long must they keep on riding.
The middle section of the song introduces a sense of detachment from reality, with references to a "magnetic field" and a dreamlike quality. The singer recalls being stripped and knelt before a magnetic field, a train of people bogged down, and a broken flag and a flashing ring that signify a shift from a dream to reality. The imagery of the singer holding onto someone who tells them to let go, suggesting forgetting what they had. The chorus then returns, with the singer seeking a way to move forward, feeling lost and unsure of what they are waiting for.
Interesting facts about the song Hearts Gone Wild include that the lyrics were written by American singer-songwriter, Bob Dylan. It was first featured on his album "Street-Legal" in 1978. The song was covered by Katy Moffatt on her 1979 album "Kissin' in the California Sun." The song has also been covered by other artists, including Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris. The song was inspired by the political tension in Central America and could be seen as an analogy of the plight of refugees. The song has been noted as having typical Dylan characteristics, including passionate and descriptive lyrics, evocative repetitions, and an apocalyptic fit. The song received critical acclaim for its lyrics, rich instrumentation, and vocal delivery.
