Honey
Ke$ha Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I remember every time we used to be together
Yeah, we were ride-or-die, we even used to pee together
I used to be the shoulder that you would cry on
When Polly fucked you over, I'm the one you'd rely on
When it all began, I was your biggest fan
You've gone and fucked it over, over half a man
And breakfast on a yacht in the French Riviera
Delete my number, bitch, sayonara

That's girl code, baby girl
And you broke the golden rule
So I guess I'll see you never, so bye-bye
Honey, you can have my sloppy seconds
If you really need (take it)
Find my pictures under legends if you Google me
And he's only sleeping with you tryna get to me
You're so easy
You're dead to me, oh

Hey, hey
Hey, woah
Hey, hey
Hey, woah

I don't talk shit unless it's true
You smell that? Damn, it must be you
I didn't have a crystal ball, but I always knew
You would stab me in the back with your stripper shoe
Even my friends thought that it was weird
When you'd be coming over, even when I wasn't here
You're just a copycat, but no one's buying that
Up on the discount rack, right at the back of T.J. Maxx

That's girl code, baby girl
And you broke the golden rule
So I guess I'll see you never, so bye-bye
Honey, you can have my sloppy seconds
If you really need
Find my pictures under legends if you Google me
And he's only sleeping with you tryna get to me
You're so easy
You're dead to me, oh

Hey, hey
Hey, woah
Hey, hey
Hey, woah

Honey, mmm
You were more to me, you were more like family
When you were under attack, had your back
You were more than a friend to me
It was us against the world

You were my girl
I still can't believe you did this to me, oh

Honey, you can have my sloppy seconds If you really need
Find my pictures under 'legends' if you Google me
And he's only sleeping with you tryna get to me
You're so easy
You're dead to me, oh

Hey, hey
Hey, woah

Hey, hey
Hey, woah

Overall Meaning

In the song "Honey" by Ke$ha, Ke$ha expresses her disappointment and anger towards a former friend who broke the "girl code" by dating someone Ke$ha had been with previously. Ke$ha reminisces about the close bond they once had when they were "ride-or-die" and even used to "pee together." She was always there for her friend when she needed a shoulder to cry on, even when their mutual friend Polly had done her wrong. However, when Ke$ha's friend started dating the guy she had been with, also known as her "sloppy seconds," Ke$ha cut her off completely. She emphasizes the betrayal of the "girl code" and ultimately decides that her friend is "dead to me," and therefore, she no longer wishes to have anything to do with her.

The song touches on the idea of loyalty between friends and the importance of sticking to an unspoken rule among women that you don't date someone's exes. Ke$ha also shows a bittersweet nostalgia for the friendship she once had and implies that she feels hurt by the betrayal. The chorus contains the phrase "sloppy seconds," which refers to the idea that her friend is taking her leftovers, both in terms of the guy she used to date and their friendship.

the real heart of the record. wow. a little bit of a low-key campfire jam injected with some of her most soulful vocals. absolutely gorgeous

@loganmurphy9453

I think the soulful vocals are mostly Tayla Parx... Tayla sings almost the entire chorus & hook.

@joeagger

Logan Murphy I totally hear Kesha in there too!!

@loganmurphy9453

@@joeagger yeah, they definitely sing some parts together, I find Tayla's voice to be more prominent, though! Not saying it's a bad thing at all, either, I really like the song, but 1) Tayla should have been credited as featured artist if they were gonna use her voice so prominently or 2) they should have made kesha a bit more prominent if they weren't going to credit Tayla.
