Big Enough
Keith Richards Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No tears need flow
Let no one tell you
How you should grow, yeah
Stretched to the limit honey
Locked in the hole
Hung out to dry
Ready, willing, able, and big enough
Run in the front door
Run out the back
Wall in your face and
A gun in your back
No time for weepin' baby
No need for tears
Let no one tell you honey
How you, how you should grow
Big enough
Ready, willing, able, and big enough
The song "Big Enough" by Keith Richards and the X-Pensive Winos is about facing challenges head-on without allowing emotions to get in the way. The lyrics suggest that it's not helpful to cry and feel sorry for oneself, as it's important to be strong and adaptable in difficult situations. The lines "Let no one tell you how you should grow" and "How you, how you should grow" convey the message of personal growth and not allowing others to dictate one's path in life.
The lyrics also describe feeling overwhelmed and trapped ("Stretched to the limit honey/Locked in the hole") but not giving up ("Still on a roll"). The imagery of running in the front door and out the back, and facing a wall and a gun, emphasize the idea of adversity and challenges. However, the repeated chorus "Big enough/Ready, willing, able, and big enough" serves as a reminder to be strong, capable, and empowered.

Beautiful minimalism. Sound is not full of everything, Keith keeps it simple. I love this track, it's spiritual.
