Amazing
Keith and Renee Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
Twas grace hath brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun
Than when we first begun
The lyrics to Keith and Renee's song "Amazing" are a beautiful and heartfelt expression of gratitude for the salvation and grace that the singer has experienced. The song begins with a reference to the famous hymn "Amazing Grace," acknowledging the sweetness of the sound that saved a wretched soul like the singer. It speaks of a transformation, from being lost and blind to being found and able to see, all thanks to grace.
The second verse delves deeper into the impact of grace on the singer's life. It was through grace that their heart learned to fear and through grace that their fears were relieved. This emphasizes the power and significance of grace in overcoming challenges and finding peace and comfort. The lyrics highlight the precious nature of that initial experience of grace, underscoring the significance of the moment when the singer first believed.
The song then moves into the idea that despite the dangers, toils, and snares the singer has encountered, it is grace that has brought them safely through thus far and will continue to lead them home. This conveys a sense of steadfastness and reliance on grace as a guiding force in their journey.
The final verses of the song take a more eternal perspective. The lyrics speak of the impermanence of the earthly world, with references to the dissolving of the earth like snow and the sun no longer shining. However, it is in this context that the everlasting nature of God's presence and ownership is affirmed. The song concludes with the notion that when the singer has spent ten thousand years in heaven, they will still have an endless amount of time to sing God's praises, just as they did when they first began their faith journey.
