Say It Is
Keith and Renee Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the daylight is fading,
From within me calls
Could it be I am sleeping?
For a moment I stray,
Then it holds me completely
Close to home - I cannot say
Close to home feeling so far away
As I walk the room there before me a shadow
From another world, where no other can follow
Carry me to my own, to where I can cross over
Close to home - I cannot say
Close to home feeling so far away
Forever searching; never right,
I am lost in oceans of night.
Forever hoping I can find memories
Those memories I left behind
Even though I leave will I go on believing
That this time is real - am I lost in this feeling?
Like a child passing through,
Never knowing the reason
I am home - I know the way
I am home - feeling oh, so far away
The lyrics in Keith and Renee's song "Say It Is" convey a sense of confusion and displacement. The singer is struggling with the feeling of being so close to home, yet feeling like they are so far away. The use of imagery, such as the fading daylight and shadows, suggest the feeling of being lost in the dark. The lyrics also explore the idea that the singer is searching for something, perhaps memories or a sense of purpose, and is hoping to find it.
The line, "Forever searching; never right, I am lost in oceans of night," expresses the feeling of being always on the search for something but never quite finding it. The singer feels lost in their journey and unable to find their way back home. The imagery of oceans suggests that the singer feels overwhelmed and adrift in their search.
In the chorus, the singer questions whether they will ever find what they are looking for, wondering if this time and feeling is real or if they are lost in it. The final line, "I am home feeling oh, so far away," conveys the deep loneliness and confusion the singer feels, even though they are close to their physical home.
