If
Ken Lyrics

鍵をかけて (I miss you) 時間を止めて (even if)
(I'm with you, baby)
君も少し (I want you) 酔った方がいい (even if)

鍵をかけて (I miss you) 終電を越えて (even if)
(I'm with you, baby)
君もいっそ (I want you) 酔ってしまえばいい (even if)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ken's song "If" tell the story of a man who has been in love with someone for a long time and finally takes them to a bar. While there, the woman seems happy and content but keeps talking about another man. The singer is torn between wanting to be with her and not wanting to interfere in her relationship. He thinks about stopping time and keeping her with him forever. He wonders if she feels the same way and tries to make her drink more to see if drunkenness will reveal her true feelings. But in the end, he lets her go, aware that she is not his to keep.

The first two lines of the song explain that the singer did not just coincidentally run into the woman; he had wanted to be with her for a long time. This sets the stage for the rest of the story. The chorus repeatedly references the bourbon and cassis soda drink they are sharing and how as long as they are drinking it, the woman belongs to the singer. However, the woman's attention keeps turning to another man, and the singer cannot help but feel left out. The second verse reveals that the singer was frustrated when the woman kept interrupting him by lighting cigarettes instead of talking to him. The bridge of the song is where he really begins to question whether he should keep trying to win her over or let her go. The final lines of the song reiterate the sad realization that the woman is not his to keep.

Overall, the lyrics to Ken's song "If" are about the conflict between wanting to be with someone and accepting that they belong to someone else. The singer is miserable throughout the song because of his unrequited love, and he ends up accepting that he must let her go. The sad atmosphere of the music reinforces this bittersweet message.
