Boothe seemed, at the time, to have the makings of an international, long-lasting, hit maker, certainly when compared to most of the other latter-day reggae acts. His smoother style gave him a wider appeal, rather like UB40 and Aswad. Boothe's choice of songs also showed the breadth of his musical taste. But for all that, he only managed one more hit in the UK Chart, "Crying over You", which made Number 11.
In more recent times, Boothe has also recorded for Bunny Lee, Phil Pratt, King Jammy, Pete Weston, Jack Ruby, Hugh "Red Man" James, Castro Brown, and Tappa Zukie. Plus in 1995, he teamed up with Shaggy, for a new styled version of his old track, "The Train Is Coming", which appeared on the soundtrack of the film, Money Train.
A double-disc overview of Boothe's Trojan years, Crying over You, was released by the label in 2001.

Everybody Wants to Rule The World
Ken Boothe Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Even while we sleep we will find
You acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature
Ev'rybody wants to rule the world
It's my own desire, it's my own remorse
Help me to decide. Help me make the most
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Ev'rybody wants to rule the world
I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never, never, never, need it
One headline, why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world
All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
The lyrics of Ken Boothe's song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" touch on themes of ambition, power, and the desire for control. The opening lines, "Welcome to your life, there's no turning back," suggest that once we enter the world, we are exposed to various influences and forces beyond our control. Even in our sleep, we find ourselves conforming to societal expectations and behaving in ways that may be considered "proper" or "best." This conformity often involves turning away from the natural world and prioritizing personal ambitions.
The chorus, "Everybody wants to rule the world," emphasizes the universal desire for power and control. It reflects the idea that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has a longing to exert influence and authority. This desire may stem from a sense of personal desire and remorse, as mentioned in the second verse. The lyrics express a plea for help in making decisions and finding a balance between freedom and pleasure. The line "Nothing ever lasts forever" suggests that even when one attains power or control, it is only temporary.
The second half of the song introduces a contrasting image of a room where one can find solace and intimacy away from the chaos of the world. The singer expresses the intention to support and follow someone through challenging times. The lyrics allude to the joy in almost achieving their goals, while also lamenting the inevitable fading of things. The final lines reiterate the idea that everyone wants to have power and control, but also acknowledge the fleeting nature of such desires.
Overall, the song delves into the universal human struggle for control, power, and the fleeting nature of these aspirations.
