#1. Probably this seeking after ULTIMATE freedom is not because of Eren but because of the Attack Titan or the Titan Worm,
#2 Probably he just wanted to keep his promise, what he made to his friends that they are the most precious to him he will protect them at any cost.
#3 probably he wanted to erase the misunderstanding between humans.
Doing rumbling by destroying those fools who don't look at the reality with everyone's perspective. He was like a bird who saw everything of a human nature, he was screwed of misunderstanding. He saw his friends who understood everyone's perspective but also on the other hand the whole world think themselves as son of devils so he decided to made himself villain to prove his friends as normal human beings and not some son of devils towards the world.
But also if he really believed that then he should atleast think of Armin's way once.
