Tush
Kenny Chesney Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I been up, I been down.
Take my word, my way around
I ain't askin' for much
I said, Lord, take me downtown,
I'm just lookin' for some tush
I been bad, I been good,
Dallas, Texas; Hollywood
I ain't askin' for much
I said, Lord, take me downtown,
I'm just lookin' for some tush
Take me back way back home,
Not by myself, not alone
I ain't askin' for much

I said, Lord, take me downtown,
I'm just lookin' for some tush

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kenny Chesney's song Tush describe a person who is searching for a good time and is willing to go to great lengths to find it. The lyrics speak to the experiences that many people have had when they are young and want to experience life to the fullest. The lyrics suggest that the person has been around the block a few times and knows the ins and outs of the city. They have been both good and bad, and have been to both Dallas, Texas and Hollywood. The singer is not looking for anything complicated, but instead is asking for a simple and primal desire to be fulfilled - they are just looking for some tush.

The repetition of the phrase "I ain't askin' for much" emphasizes the singer's simplicity and straightforwardness. The words "Lord, take me downtown" imply a sense of desperation and longing, and the singer seeks the solace of the city to find what they're looking for. The lyrics are ultimately about the desire to have a good time without any strings attached - this is a common feeling that is often shared by young adults who are looking for a release from the stress and pressure of everyday life.

From the 2002 album "Sharp Dressed Men: A Tribute to ZZ Top". The full version runs 3:28, and begins with helicopters, with Kenny in a digitized voice proclaiming "I've been up and I've been down/All the way downtown/I've been bad and I've been good/From Dallas, Texas to Hollywood"; electric guitars kick in, before going into the actual song!

This should be included on Kenny's "No Shoes Radio" playlist on Sirius!
