Footloose
Kenny Loggins‭ Lyrics

Been working so hard
I'm punching my card
Eight hours for what?
Oh, tell me what I got
I've got this feeling
That time's just holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town

So now I gotta cut loose
Footloose, kick off the Sunday shoes
Please, Louise, pull me off of my knees
Jack, get back, come on before we crack
Lose your blues, everybody cut footloose

You're playing so cool, obeying every rule
Deep way down in your heart
You're burning, yearning for the some, somebody to tell you
That life ain't passing you by
I'm trying to tell you
It will if you don't even try

You'll get by if you'd only cut loose
Footloose, kick off the Sunday shoes
Ooh-wee, Marie, shake it, shake it for me
Woah, Milo come on, come on let's go
Lose your blues, everybody cut footloose

Yeah, ooh-oh-oh
(Cut footloose)
Ooh-oh-oh
(Cut footloose)
Yeah, ooh-oh-oh
(Cut footloose)
Ooh
You got to turn me around
And put your feet on the ground
Gotta take the hold of all

I'm turning loose, footloose, kick off the Sunday shoes
Please, Louise, pull me off of my knees
Jack, get back, come on before we crack
Lose your blues, everybody cut footloose

Footloose, footloose
Footloose, kick off the Sunday shoes
Please, Louise, pull me off of my knees
Jack, get back, come on before we crack
Lose your blues, everybody cut, everybody cut
Everybody cut, everybody cut

Everybody cut, everybody cut
Everybody, everybody cut footloose

Overall Meaning

The song "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins is about letting go of the constraints of conventional society and dancing to the beat of your own drum. The lyrics describe the frustration of a hardworking individual who is feeling trapped by the daily grind of their job. The line "eight hours for what? Oh, tell me what I got" highlights the monotony and dissatisfaction with the routine. The singer then sings of feeling held down by time, either to the point of breaking through to something bigger ("I'll hit the ceiling"), or tearing everything down ("Or else I'll tear up this town").

The chorus encourages the listener to cut loose and dance without inhibition, shedding the rules and expectations that hold them back. The line "lose your blues, everybody cut footloose" is a call to action to let go of any troubles and let the music take over. The second verse describes someone who is outwardly composed, but inside, they crave something more. The singer encourages them to embrace new experiences and take risks, lest they let life pass them by.

Overall, the song is an expression of the human desire for freedom, fun, and self-expression. By dancing and cutting loose, the characters in the song find a way to break free from the monotony of everyday life and revel in the joy of the moment.

Been working so hard
I'm punching my card
Eight hours for what
Oh, tell me what I got

I've got this feeling
That times are holding me down
I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town

Now I gotta cut loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise, pull me off of my knees
Jack, get back, come on before we crack
Lose your blues, everybody cut footloose

Obeying every rule
Deep way down in your heart
You're burning yearning for some
Somebody to tell you

My science teacher sent me here. He used to play music he liked when we entered and left the class, but with quarantine going on, we're kinda depressed and alone, so he sends us emails saying what song he would have played that day. He's a really awesome guy. Love you sir!
