@Ab Yeah, but a lot of people don't. A lot of people sit at the red light staring at their phone and as soon as the light turns green, they punch it. Next time your at a stop light, look at the car next to you. Chances are they are checking their G.D. phone. Pay attention people. Put down the phones and be extra cautious. I wait almost long enough to cause people behind me to honk their horns.

This crash is a prime example why I find it idiotic how DMV driving examiners tell you don’t slow down at a street where the other drivers have a stop sign or an intersection with a green light to look both ways before crossing over. So what I’m supposed to just keep driving past the street with a stop sign on the other side or intersection with a green light without looking both ways in hopes some moron isn’t running the stop sign or red light?

All the streets in the Valley are built like highways with people getting up beyond 60mph+ (especially young men in BMW, Audi's, Chargers, lifted trucks, etc.) I work down the street from here and have personally seen dozens of accidents at the intersections surrounding the area. (Topanga Cyn and Vanowen is especially bad.)

At some point, we have to realize that imploring drivers to "slow down" or "pay attention" is not going to work because for every driver that learns their lesson in an accident or close call, there are dozens of new young drivers hitting the streets driving way too fast and straight-up driving dumb. I don't know how exactly to approach it, but perhaps a look at how we design the roads and intersections to force drivers to slow down: Narrower lanes, curb extensions, maybe center islands forcing slight curves while going through the intersection might be some ideas. But every week or two you hear of a big crash and fatality in the Valley and it will never stop until we do something about the design of the the streets out there.

I live in the SF Valley, and I know this neighborhood, ALL too well. I'm disgusted with how bad drivers are all over this state! I mean, even Nancy Pelosi's ridiculous husband, both of them rich enough to have personal chauffeurs, HE got a DUI recently.

Riding along patrol with officers (part of the gig I had), I learned a lot about the safest speed to drive anywhere is 60 mph (ONLY on the freeway). It is typically survivable, because of the features standard in cars these days. However, with bigger vehicles, also comes bigger engines, and drivers who don't know how to handle them. So fatalities are more guaranteed because of the braking time trucks need.
The safest speed on freeways, when it RAINS...is 35 for trucks, 40 for cars.
But of course, people don't heed this, and rainy days, guarantees even MORE crashes.
Most people are driving very nice vehicles. But use them like they only cost a $1.98, and lives are worth even less.

There should come a disclaimer with each car purchase and vehicle registration renewal where people have to read and sign acknowledgement that operating their vehicle may cause harm or death to themselves and others. The same thing happened on the street on June 8, just 20 days ago. (This street is my commute)

Imagine if the killer didn’t have to drive to his destination that night. Imagine if there was an alternate form of transportation such as public transit or bicycling.
