Yesterdays
Kern & Harbach Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yesterdays, yesterdays
Days I knew as happy
Sweet sequestered days
Olden days, golden days
Days of mad romance and love
Then gay youth was mine, truth was mine
Joyous free and flaming life
Forsooth, was mine
Sad am I, glad am I

For today I'm dreaming of yesterdays

That's one of the best tenor sounds I've ever heard.

Solomon Heavyside

That was some excellent tenor work. I used to play tenor sax many years ago through my freshman year of high school, and I know for a fact it is very difficult to play with that type of range and control well. Very nice performance.

This interpretation of one of Bill Holman's great arrangements must be hard to beat. Each time I listen to it the better it sounds. This is an orchestra.

Matt Sawyer

Brian you have so many good things going on in your playing! Big fan of the cadenza and your sound.

Chauncy Washington

This is the essence of perfection. Great arrangement on a gorgeous composition, and amazing feel that the ensemble has, and Brian's interpretation, WOW! I couldn't find enough good to describe his mastery on this. So emotional, with such feel and understanding...incredible low register, and all up and down on the beautiful Selmer.

JON D. ELDER

Great stuff! Bill Hollman is an arranging genius.

IamNick

Wow, that is Brecker caliber tone and improv at the cadenza! Yet, there's so much originality here. I must say, Mr. Clancy, you have such a way with soloing. Thank you for this awesome recording!

David C

Effortless playing with a sublime sound. One of my desert island tracks that I could listen to time and time again. And do so without being on a desert Island.

Loufip

Very remarkable rendition. I got emotional. Congrats & thx for posting.

John Allen

This has been one of my favorite "Kenton band/Holman" arrangements since I was a high school student in the fifties. I believe Bill Perkins did that first tenor solo/part. These guys made chills go all over me. Such memories.... Gives me hope. Keep it up.
