Using only his homemade studio and personal credit card, Kero One pressed and released his first 12” record Check the Blueprints in 2003 on his own imprint, Plug Label. Without any experience as to how he should distribute his new record, Kero One spent endless hours researching, cold calling, and seeking help from friends. Of the 50 copies that were eventually distributed around the world, one landed in a tiny record store in Tokyo, Japan. A few weeks later, it was found by a Japanese DJ who played it at a club that night and received dozens of inquires, including a Japanese label executive who immediately contacted Kero One and asked for 3,000 copies of the record. The record, “Check the Blueprints” became an underground Hiphop classic in Japan, and Kero One was invited to tour the country just a few months after. He performed in cities throughout Japan where he was greeted by hundreds of fans waiting to take photographs and autographs, much to his surprise. It was at this point that making a career out of music became a reality.
Kero One went on to finish his first album, Windmills of the Soul, in 2005, handling everything from playing instruments, rapping, and sound engineering. Without a strong label backing or a street team, Kero One handled almost all the business himself. From promotions and marketing, manufacturing, finances, art direction and web design, Kero One personally handed out promos to tastemakers anywhere he could find them. Eventually the hard work paid off, and Windmills of the Soul garnered respect in many circles for Kero One’s thought provoking lyrics and musical soundscapes which fused live instruments with dusty analog samples. It wasn’t long before Kero One quit his job as a web designer in 2006 to pursue music full time. Since 2006, Kero One has been awarded the title of Best HipHop Album of 2006 from Remix magazine Japan, topped iTunes hiphop charts, received praise from artists all over the world like multi Grammy award winning producer Will.i.am of Black Eyed peas, the legendary Stevie Wonder, Emmy nominated jazz singer Jaime Cullum, and multi award winning Korean Hiphop groups Epik High and Dynamic Duo. Kero One has also performed with artists like Stevie Wonder, Blu + Exile, Far East Movement, KRS 1, Dougie Fresh, Epik High, Jay Park, Dynamic Duo & Simon D. Kero One’s Music has been heard in Printemps Mall in Paris, Takashimaya mall in Tokyo, Hyatt hotels, and Tv Shows like Anthony Bourdain Layover and Fuse TV. Additionally, Kero One has collaborated with artists from all over the globe like Talib Kweli, Aloe Blacc, Epik High (KOREA), Ben Westbeech (UK), Dj Deckstream (JAPAN), David Choi, Fashawn, Shing02, Dumbfoundead, The Sound Providers, Dj Mitsu, Dynamic Duo (KOREA) and many others.
As of 2012, Kero One has released four full length solo albums. His fourth solo album “Color Theory”, raised over $10,000 from fans who wanted to help fund it on Kickstarter. Kero One is a full time rapper, producer, and DJ. Check out his work on his youtube channel (www.youtube.com/keroonetv).
When the Sunshine Comes
Kero One Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
When the sunshine comes
Its rays they seem to talk to me
When the sunshine comes
The sunny days shine on to set me free
Verse 1
It seemed like it took forever .for that sun to shine
Years without a man, a hill thatâ
€™s hard to climb
But now she feels a warmth when the sun aligns
It’s a sign that no matter what comes her way
She can fight the storm and she can face the day
The leaves they sway and the breeze it softly blows
And with each ray of sun, her confidence grows
Kero One's song "When the Sunshine Comes" is a melodious rap song that delivers lyrics that are both uplifting and empowering. The song speaks about hope, optimism, and the power of perseverance. The chorus relates how the sunshine seems to talk to the artist in the song, and when it shines, it provides a sense of freedom. The primary message of the song is about how things may be difficult but one must carry on, for eventually, a sunny day will come to set the heart free.
The Lyrics of verse one talk about how things may be hard, but one must keep fighting to attain ultimate freedom. The verse alludes to how it takes time and patience, but ultimately the sun shines, which can be a metaphor for happiness or the end of the tunnel. The song's message is not only about the artist, but it can also apply to anyone going through a battle. No one knows when the sunshine will come, but the song advises people to hold on and keep going, as it's only a matter of time before the clouds part ways. The instrumental of the song is fresh, with drums and string instruments giving off a feel-good vibe that compliments the lyrics.

When the sunshine comes
Its rays they seem to talk to me
When the sunshine comes
The sunny days shine on to set me free
It seemed like it took forever .for that sun to shine
Counting down the days in the back of her mind
Years without a man, a hill that†s hard to climb
At times she'd mask it, acting like all is fine
With her, party nights, Gemini life
Hangovers barely sober, with her stomach uptight
Yeah, a few flings but none that brought a ring
Her clouds followed proud, till†one evening
It†s like her spell erased, replaced by this dude
Hotter than Vegas summers, with charm its major news
PhD degree, male chivalry
Even carried her on his back drunk in shiny shoes
Romance, here's her chance, ring in his hand...
Tears embraced her cheek saying yes to the plan.
Call the girls, they wont believe the ring she had
Finally, the sun touched her skin as she sang.
When the sunshine comes
Its rays they seem to talk to me
When the sunshine comes
The sunny days shine on to set me free
Now for Jon this step was major, favorably viewed
Jane had looks and brains, and his parents approved
It happened so quickly, but what could he do
The pressure built swiftly, with his girl in his groove
Like planting seeds talking honeymoon in Greece
Marriage, baby carriage, what your parents think of me?
Apparently, they been wanting this knot tied
But this smothered his vibe, till clouds hovered his mind
Sucking up time from his med school grind
He tried to unwind, forget wine, he sniffed lines
A blast to his past, his college days ways
That white holiday where he'd frolic and play
Now to most, this might seem dark in every sense
But for Jon, he saw sun with every hit
Until he saw his girl, when she found his crack pipe
The words from her mouth, threw him off into a fight
No resolution they broke up that night
Months passed, . her tears dried. as she criedâ€Â¦
When the sunshine comes
Its rays they seem to talk to me
When the sunshine comes
The sunny days shine on to set me free
Nowadays, Jane wakes up feeling refreshed
Knowing that she's glowing, from growing without regrets
Minus a few steps multiplied by its mess
Ctrl alt del reset equals refreshed
The summer is here, the drama is clear
It's time to call the girls bring the boys and beers
Day in day out, party till dawn
Until one day, her body went num
Petite frame, couldn†t handle all the rum
Body in seizure, hypothermic fever
Ambulance rush to Emergency research
The doc clears the crowd, screams out loud to leave her
Starts the IV's in blinks of an eye
His hands on her thigh, he hopes she†s alive
Hours go by, she opens her eyes for light,
Only to see, it was Dr. Jon, who saved her life
When the sunshine comes
Its rays they seem to talk to me
When the sunshine comes
The sunny days shine on to set me free
