Jaded
Kevin Keith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why is what's on television how we judge what we need
Just go outside look with your own eyes
See past that little screen

His career's climbing, her money's piling
On the fame and beauty show

You'll never find happiness inside image or things you can own

Why are we terrified of ordinary lives
Our very hearts we traded, we're Jaded

Why do we teach denial, did we forget what we are
Have we become Jaded

Medication, dull the symptom of emptiness we feel
Why don't we try living from inside
Like we did as children

Why are we terrified of ordinary lives
Our very hearts we traded, we're Jaded

Why do we teach denial, did we forget what we are
Have we become Jaded

I'm breaking the path of society
I'm gonna do what feels natural to me
I feel so fortunate for each and every day
I believe that life was meant to be this way

Why are we terrified of ordinary lives
Our very hearts we traded, we're Jaded

Why do we teach denial, did we forget what we are
Have we become Jaded

Why are we terrified of ordinary lives
Our very hearts we traded, we're Jaded

Why do we teach denial, did we forget what we are
Have we become Jaded

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kevin Keith's song "Jaded" reflect on the societal pressures and the consequences of living in a materialistic and image-focused world. The first set of lyrics highlights the way in which we rely on television as a measure of what we think we need, instead of experiencing the world firsthand. The song encourages listeners to step outside and see beyond the confines of their screens.

The next verse delves into the shallow pursuits of fame and material wealth, suggesting that despite these external symbols, true happiness cannot be found solely in image or material possessions. The term "jaded" is used metaphorically to describe the disillusionment and weariness that can arise from a life solely focused on these superficial aspects.

The lyrics then question our fear of leading ordinary lives, suggesting that we have somehow come to view them as undesirable. The phrase "our very hearts we traded" implies that we have compromised our true selves for societal expectations and norms. The repetition of the word "jaded" emphasizes the lyricist's belief that we have become disenchanted and disconnected from our core identities.

The subsequent section explores the use of medication as a means to numb the emptiness and dissatisfaction that many people feel. It urges listeners to reconnect with their internal selves and experience life authentically, much like children do before societal conditioning takes hold.

The final verse expresses a desire to break away from societal norms and expectations. The lyricist asserts their commitment to living a life that feels natural and authentic to them. They express gratitude for each day and assert their belief that life was meant to be experienced in a genuine and fulfilling way.

In summary, "Jaded" is a reflective song that highlights the dangers of living a superficial and image-focused life. It urges listeners to step away from societal pressures, reconnect with their true selves, and embrace the ordinary moments that make life meaningful.

So where can I buy your music on CD or preferably album?
I prefer to buy my music directly from an artist or their website. If I have to use Amazon I will but I would rather not.
And I definitely don't want water down MP3 files downloaded.
I will not buy unless I could get an actual CD or album in my hands.
