Mer
Kevin Kline Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

La mer
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

La mer
Au ciel d’été confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer bergère d'azur
Infinie

Voyez
Pres des étangs
Ces grands roseaux mouilles
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouillées

La mer
Les a berces
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour

La mer
A berce mon cœur pour la vie

Overall Meaning

The song La Mer by Kevin Kline is a beautiful tribute to the sea, describing the sights and sounds of the ocean. The lyrics are in French, but they can be translated to English. The first verse talks about the way the sea dances along the clear bays, with the silver reflections caused by the changing light. It is a beautiful and mesmerizing sight. The second verse compares the white clouds of summer with the white waves of the sea, and suggests that they merge with the pure angels. The sea is described as a blue shepherd that is infinite.

The third verse talks about the environment around the sea, with wet reeds and white birds, and rusty houses. The sea has a soothing effect on everything that lives around it, and it is like a lullaby that puts hearts at peace. It is evident that Kevin Kline admires the sea and how it affects all living things around it. The choice of words and the manner of delivery all indicate that the sea is a source of inspiration and perpetual beauty that has an entrancing effect on all of us.

Overall, La Mer by Kevin Kline is a magnificent tribute to the sea, and the lyrics are beautifully written in a way that captures the beauty, tranquility, and liveliness of this natural wonder.

I attended Indiana University with Kevin Kline, who got an MA in Drama there in the late '60s. I was on stage during "Three Penny Opera" a few feet from him as he sang "Mack the Knife." Wow! Such a memory of a brilliant singer and actor in his early days on stage!

23 years ago from this day i married my best friend and walked down the aisle to this French Kiss version of dream a little dream and the entire collection of songs played at our reception. Little did i know that my surprise honeymoon from my hubby would be in Paris, then French Alps for 2 weeks followed by Venice
Italy for another 2 weeks and was the most amazing trip to this day. We plan on being there again for our 25th. Fast forward today all 3 grown children love listening to this soundtrack and will use in their own weddings as well.

It's adorable that you'd think that we strangers, would give a shit about you or your wedding. Bless....
