The Heat
Khamari Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Trying to make the best of the bad situation
Waiting for some light but it keep on raining
Tell me what's the point if we both feeling jaded
I just kind of feel like my time getting wasted

And I don't mean to make you feel no type of way
But I got a few things that I want to say
I been running running 'way from the heat
I been running running all through these streets
Like I got lightning in the soles of my feet
I been running running 'way from the heat

I don't wanna yell can we talk about it later
Always find a way of making nothing something major
And I, can't help but notice cause it's in my nature
Baby girl, I don't recognize you with this behavior

And I don't mean to make you feel no type of way
I just got a couple things that I wanna say

I been running running 'way from the heat
I been running running all through these streets
Like I got lightning in the soles of my feet
I been running running 'way from the heat

Before it all goes south, we could figure this
Before it all goes south, we could figure this out
Before it all goes south, we could figure this (Out)
Before it all goes south, we could figure this out

I been running running 'way from the heat
I been running running all through these streets
Like I got lightning in the soles of my feet
I been running running 'way from the
Running running 'way from the heat

Overall Meaning

In "The Heat," Khamari describes his struggles in a relationship that has lost its spark. He describes feeling like he is wasting his time in a bad situation while waiting for a change. He is running away from the heat, which can be understood both literally as in escaping the boiling heat, but also metaphorically as escaping a situation that puts him under pressure. The chorus is the most powerful part of the song as he sings about running around the streets like he's possessed by lightning in his feet, indicating a sense of urgency as he makes his escape.

Khamari starts the second verse with a statement that he doesn't want to yell and raise his voice. He knows that it will not solve the problem and might make it worse. He then expresses his dissatisfaction with his partner's current behavior, which is not what he recognizes from her. He wants to have a conversation about their issues, but she is not receptive. However, before it all goes south, he still wants to try to figure things out, as evidenced in the song's last chorus.

Khamari's "The Heat" is an introspective and emotional song. It delves into the complications of a relationship that has lost its passion and the frustration that comes with trying to figure things out with someone you care for. The heat can be understood both literally as in escaping the boiling heat and metaphorically as escaping intense pressure. The lyrics are an honest portrayal of what it's like to be in a difficult situation with conflicting feelings.
