Kid Rock released several studio albums from 1988 that mostly went unnoticed before his 1998 record 'Devil Without a Cause', released with Atlantic Records, sold 11 million albums behind the hits, "Bawitdaba","Cowboy," and "Only God Knows Why". In 2000, he released The History of Rock which was a compilation of remixed and remastered versions of songs from his previous albums as well as the hit single, "American Bad Ass". In 2001, he released the follow up, Cocky. After a slow start, his country-flavored hit "Picture" with Sheryl Crow resurrected the album and it went gold as a single and pushed the album's sales to more than 5 million. It was followed by 2003's self-titled release, which failed to chart a major hit. In 2006 he released Live Trucker , a live album. In 2007 Kid Rock released Rock N Roll Jesus, which produced a hit in "All Summer Long." It was his first worldwide smash hit, charting #1 in eight countries across Europe and Australia. Rock N Roll Jesus would go on to sell 5 million albums worldwide including being certified triple platinum in the US.
He has sold 22 million albums to date in the United States, which currently ranks him as the 99th best selling music artist of all time in the U.S.
Never Enough
Kid Rock Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's never enough gas in the tank
Can you feel me?
Can you hear me?
There's never enough bullets in the clip
There's never enough whiskey on your lips
Is there, baby?
Don't it drive you crazy?
Never enough, never enough
Flame in your eyes and fire in your touch
The stronger the drug, the longer the rush
When it comes to your love, too much
Ain't never enough
There's never enough powder on the plate
There's never enough time when you're late
But we keep running
We keep gunning
There's never enough, never enough
Flame in your eyes and fire in your touch
The stronger the drug, the longer the rush
When it comes to your love, too much
Is never enough
There's never enough friends when you're down
There's enough love to spread around
I don't know why but I wanna testify, yeah
There's never enough, never enough
Flame in your eyes and fire in your touch
The stronger the drug, the longer the rush
When it comes to your love, too much
Is never enough
Is never enough (never enough)
Is never enough (never enough)
Is never enough (never enough)
In "Never Enough," Kid Rock explores the theme of insatiability and the constant desire for more in various aspects of life. The lyrics touch on the idea that there is never enough money in the bank, gas in the tank, bullets in the clip, whiskey on the lips, powder on the plate, or time when you're late. Despite these perpetual shortages, the singer keeps pushing forward, running and gunning, suggesting a relentless pursuit of something greater.
The chorus delves into the addictive nature of love and desire. The flame in your eyes and fire in your touch represent the passion and intensity of a romantic relationship. The stronger the drug, referring to love, the longer the rush, emphasizing the exhilarating and addictive nature of these intense emotions. However, the lyrics also suggest that even in love, too much is never enough. This implies that the singer is always craving more, never fully satisfied or content.
The verse about friends and love being spread around adds a slightly different perspective to the song. It suggests that while there may never be enough friends when you're down, there is enough love to go around. This could be interpreted as a reminder to focus on the meaningful connections and love in life rather than constantly striving for material possessions or other fleeting desires.
Overall, "Never Enough" portrays a sense of longing and dissatisfaction, highlighting the human tendency to seek more even when it seems like there is already an abundance. It explores the addictive nature of various aspects of life and the constant pursuit for something greater, while also hinting at the need to appreciate the love and connections we already have.
