Ya Keep On
Kid Rock Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pass that dang coat boy I'm back
My name ain't Jack Tripper, but I'm a day tripper
So watch me whip another funky rhyme
East side swingin' with the Boones wine

Gettin' mine, just like I'm supposed to
And if you fuck with the Rock, I'll roast you
A little toast to the real emcee's
Ain't no love for the want to be's

So, hey ho don't call me Joe
'Cause the Joe's I know, can't even flow
I can battle rap, and all that other crap
So if ya don't want none, better step to the back

I'm from the motherfuckin' ole school
Basement party's and the Klem fool
Talkin' that trash, I wish you would
Come step to Rock, it's all good

Ya keep on, ya keep on
Ya keep on, ya keep on

Now it's the Marlboro smokin', fine hoe pokin'
Kind bud, be the bud's I'm tokin'
Hittin' you straight with the fresh shit
Wild western funk, and I'm the best biatch

The K to the I to the chrome D's
I'm the Grand Marquees sippin' O-E
Pimpin' Rock, it's my name, my game
Servin' you hoe's like it ain't no thing

Like a kid when I rap, rock when I'm singin'
I don't care who comes, but what the fuck you bringin'
Shit, one time, one rhyme
'Cause I'm that motherfuckin' ill one, with a steel dick
Hittin' you hoe's with the real shit

Ya keep on, ya keep on
Ya keep on, ya keep on

Now if you don't know hoe, I'm the man in the dark
I got more ripps than Stanly Clark
Or George Clint, shoot, I'm the kid with the funky loot
So if ya want some, get some

If ya need some, here's some
If ya don't just step to the rear son
I'm commin' with the quickness
If you dis this biatch, you'll wind up on my hit list

I'll put a bounty on your head
Mclough County (?) bitch, ain't a good place to wind up dead
'Cause I'm a real relevant, eleventh, type menace
But it ain't Rocky Dennis

Watch me bang this rhyme in half
I'm like Moses, with the mic. as my staph
Layin' down them 10 comandments
Tho shall not dis the Rock God damnit

Ya keep on, ya keep on
Ya keep on, ya keep on

Ya keep on, ya keep on
Ya keep on, ya keep on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kid Rock's song Ya Keep On are full of bravado and show off Kid Rock's skills as a rapper. He is confident in his ability to come up with funky rhymes and battle rap with anyone who dares to challenge him. The first verse starts with him proclaiming that he is back and ready to take on anyone who messes with him. He then contrasts himself with Jack Tripper, the naΓ―ve character from the TV show Three's Company who always found himself in awkward situations. Kid Rock, on the other hand, is a "day tripper" who knows what he's doing. He takes a sip of Boones wine, a cheap and sweet wine popular at the time of the song's release, and lets everyone know he's "getting' mine, just like I'm supposed to." He warns that if anyone "fucks with the Rock," he'll roast them.

The second verse finds Kid Rock boasting about his old-school status and challenging anyone to battle rap him. He tells them to step to the back if they don't want to get beaten and warns them that he's from the "motherfuckin' ole school" and he won't take any trash talk. He also takes a jab at Joe, a generic name for a rapper, and says that he doesn't flow well. Kid Rock claims he can do all that and even serves up a toast to the real MCs. The chorus repeats "Ya keep on" four times, emphasizing that he's not stopping anytime soon.

The third verse sees Kid Rock bragging about his smoking and drinking habits, claiming he's the best at both. He mentions kind bud, a high-quality marijuana strain, and telling listeners that he's hitting them straight with the freshest music. He spells out his name K-I-D R-O-C-K, also known as the Grand Marquees, and boasts of being a pimp. He says he's serving the hoes like it's no big deal and that he's constantly bringing something fresh to the table. Finally, he warns that if anyone disses him, they'll end up on his hit list.

Overall, the song shows Kid Rock's confidence in his skills and experience as a rapper. He takes on anyone who dares to challenge him and shows that he's not afraid to speak his mind. The song also prominently displays the influence of west coast hip hop music and its funk-infused beats.
