Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Sheard spent her formative years surrounded by the strong influences of her family, their faith, and their music.[1] At age 6, she began singing in the choir at Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ, pastored by her father Superintendent J. Drew Sheard. Even at a young age, Sheard had a preternatural grip on the signature "Clark sound" pioneered by her mother and aunts, executing high and fast melismas, riffs, runs, and deep, throaty growls sometimes referred to as "squalls" (the latter is prominently displayed on "Done Did It", a traditional gospel leaning track from her album I Owe You)

Now why (why) ain't it enough that you died (diedd?
Hung on the cross just to save a soul
And that; s just-so-amazing so
I gotta serve you like it's the last time
And I gotta get it right
Cause you gave my
Life a new meaning why?
Why somebody like me
Is who you'd worry about
That's why I look on the deeper side of me
Is it worth it all just for me?
Ok, if you say so
I just wanna show you that I'm grateful
I was thinking
How did you ever come to
Love somebody like you love me, love me?
Keep somebody like you kept me, kept me?
Ohh
I was thinking
How did you ever come to
Love somebody like you love me, love me?
Keep somebody like you kept, kept me?
I've done wrong and I think you've moved on
You reach out your hand and say I am here
I never left you I brought you here
So what makes it fard to see that I love you
You gave your own life for me
Yes that's true
Regardless of everything I'm with you
When you're in doubt
But I know that you know I'm the one that brought you out
That's why
I look on the deeper side of me
Was it worht it just for me?
Ok, if you say so
I just wanna show you that I 'm greatful
I was thinking
How did you ever come to
Love somebody like you love me, love me?
Keep somebody like you kept me kept me?
How you stretched out and took the pain just for me
How did you do this?
How did you be my friend in the midnight hour?
Oh yeah yeah
You loved me in a special way
You loved me in a great way
Oh lord
You've been so good to me
You've been my healer
You've been my deliverer
You've been my provider
Uncle fredie, kiki
Oh lord I love you

The lyrics of Kierra Sheard's "Why Me" express gratitude and amazement over the unconditional love and sacrifice of God, as represented by Jesus Christ. The song starts with pondering the question of why, after being sacrificed on the cross for humanity's sins, God still cares for an individual like the artist. She acknowledges the deep, spiritual connection she feels with God, and how it shapes her life every day. The artist questions the worth of all this care and love that God has shown to her, but with humility, accepts it as a gift of grace bestowed on her. The lyrics remind listeners that God loved humanity unconditionally, and it's our duty to reciprocate that love through affection and righteous life.
In the midst of her doubts and struggles, the artist expresses her love and thanks to God for the many ways He has been good to her. God has healed her, delivered her, and provided for her, and for that, she is grateful. Furthermore, the song concludes with a declaration of love for God and an acknowledgment of the role he played in the artist's life. The song inspires people to view their lives from a spiritual perspective, grasping the true meaning of life, and living purposefully in communion with God.
