Bad Thing
Kim Cesarion Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Looking out another night
On the New York City lights
From my hotel room.
But Im...
You can tell me little lies
Over telephone lines,
Oh, you saw right through!
Theres a bird, a bird like me for you,
Is the water cold?
And the darkest side of you
Is the one youve shown!
Dont need to be a bad thing!
Dont make it a bad a thing!
It doesnt have to be
It doesnt have to be a bad thing, a bad thing!
Dont make it a bad thing
It doesnt have to!
California is really not what you imagined
Moving in a night of August, flying through the city so fast
Like the rides on fire!
I gotta find a little magic,
We could be when certain happens
You know what I do is right
Im a bad song without you!
So why youre crying?
Dont make it a bad a thing!
It doesnt really have to be!
It doesnt have to be a bad thing
That Im gone.
Im right back to you, babe
In too long.
Anything fading, its too strong
Coming back, coming back to my bad thing
To my bad thing, to my bad thing

To my bad thing, to my bad thing
To my bad thing, to my bad thing

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Kim Cesarion's song "Bad Thing" paint the picture of a man who is traveling and observing the city lights from his hotel room. He is longing for and missing someone he cares deeply for. This is evident in the lines "There's a bird, a bird like me for you" and "Im a bad song without you!". He is speaking to this person on the telephone and asks for reassurance by asking "Is the water cold?" and "You saw right through".

The song then switches to him reminiscing about his time in California, and how it wasn't exactly what he imagined it to be. He talks about flying through the city so fast, like "the rides on fire". However, he still wishes to find magic and hopes for something to happen between him and the person he cares for. He pleads with this individual, stating that "It doesn't have to be a bad thing, a bad thing". Despite the distance, he knows that he will come back to this "bad thing" because it is too strong to let fade away.

Overall, Kim Cesarion's "Bad Thing" is a song about longing for someone and questioning if the distance between two people should cause them to lose each other. It is a plea for the other person to see that the situation "doesn't have to be a bad thing".
