Pianomand
Kim Larsen & Kjukken Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The song "Pianomand" by Kim Larsen & Kjukken is a contemplative and melancholic piece that delves into the afterlife. The opening line, "Stille blues i mol og maj" (Quiet blues in minor and major), sets the mood with its subdued and somber tone. The lyrics address a pianist, referred to as "Pianomand," and question his knowledge of the afterlife. The singer asks whether it's cold and dark in the black grave or if there's a warm, inviting light. He also wonders if there's song and music in the land of the dead, and whether they are dancing and having a good time. The song ends with a wistful question about whether there's sunshine over Gudhjem (a town in Denmark) in the land of the dead and whether it's bedtime or if the festivities are still ongoing.

The song touches on universal themes of life and death and muses about what happens to us when we die. The repeated questions to Pianomand highlight the singer's longing for answers and hope for an afterlife that is joyful and not bleak. The use of the piano in the song adds to the emotive feel of the lyrics, accentuating the melancholy tone.

The frist four lines translatet to english, should be something like this:

A quiet blues in minor and May
Piano man - can you hear me now
How is everything going in land of the dead
You know that now - piano man

Don`t now if minor is the right translation for “mol”, the meaning is minor scale in music

@frozenhorse8695

I tryed my best to translate the text:

Quiet blues, in minor and May
Piano man, can you hear me
How is everything, in the land of the dead
Now you know, piano man

Is it cold and dark, in the black grave
Or does the heaven shine, like the clearest amber
Is there singing, and music, in the land of the dead
And does it swing, piano man

Is there bird song, and cheers sound
Is there party and colors, all night long
Is there sun above "godhome" in the land of the dead
Or deep good night, piano man

Is there sun above "godhome" in the land of the dead
Now you know, piano man

As an Englishman who doesn’t speak a word of danish, I can still appreciate just how good Kim Larsen was. I really love his music. And the players behind him are superb!

I am half Danish. Have limited Danish vocabulary. But can also appreciate just how good this guy was. As music, without understanding it all, it's just beautiful.
