Roses
Kim Taylor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I have many good things come my way
I left you roses in the garden
Daddy I will go and be strong everyday
I think the president is wrong
But who am I to say
I left you roses in the garden
When I get home I'm going to look to find
Prettiest girl, maybe some peace of mind
I would like to.
Momma it's a place you can't begin to know
I think I'm hearing things
I swear that time goes slow
How are the roses in the garden?
When I get home I'm going to look to find
Prettiest girl, maybe some peace of mind
I would like to.
Daddy don't cry, it's just a little bruise
You should've seen the other guy
Have the badder news
How are the roses in the garden?
When I get home I'm going to look to find
Prettiest girl, maybe some peace of mind
I would like to.
When I get back I'm going to kneel each day
I thank the good Lord for bringing me home okay
Yeah, you know that.
When I get home I'm going to look to find
Prettiest girl, maybe some piece of mind
Yeah, I would like to.
Yeah.
When I get back I'm going to kneel each day
I thank the good Lord for bringing me home okay
Yeah, you know that.
The lyrics to Kim Taylor's "Roses" are filled with emotions and imagery that invoke a sense of love, longing, and yearning for home. At the heart of the song, we find a young person bidding their family goodbye as they set out on a journey to find their fortunes. The budding adventurer offers comfort to their parents, whose worry is palpable, that they will return soon enough, and that they have left behind a token of their love in the form of roses.
The singer is confident in his or her abilities and is ready to take on whatever the world throws their way. They acknowledge their limitations, noting that they are not in the position to question decisions made by people in positions of power, such as the president. They send words of reassurance to their parents, assuring them that they will be alright.
The mention of the "roses in the garden" signifies the familial bond and the love that remains unbroken. Even though the adventurer is far away, they have left behind a physical reminder of their love in the form of roses.
