And be someone else for a while
Make you believe your the one that I want
Give you my heart in disguise
I could be all you've wanted
Make all your dreams come true, yeah
Surrender my love at the feet of your will
And you would be happy
And I'd make you smile
And I'd go on living a lie
Do you really want to give your life to
Thinking you've found true love, when it hasn't found you?
Do you really want to give your life to
Thinking you've found true love, when it hasn't found you?
I could make you a promise
And be all you want me to be
Give you my hand as we walk down the aisle
So you could live happily
And you would be happy
And I'd make you smile
And I'd go on living a lie
Do you really want to give your life to
Thinking you've found true love, when it hasn't found you?
Do you really want to give your life to
Thinking you've found true love, when it hasn't found you?
'Cause this is not what I had planned
I hoped one day that you will understand
If I could take this heart I broke
And say I love you honey if I could
Do you really want to give your life to
Thinking you've found true love, when it hasn't found you?
I could be the one to hold you
I could be the one you need
But I could never be the one
To give you everything
I could be the one to hold you
And I could be the one you need
But I could never be the one
To give you everything
Do you really want to give your life to
Thinking you've found true love? Yeah
Do you really want to give your life to
Thinking you've found true love, when it hasn't found you?
Do you really want to give your life to
Thinking you've found true love, when it hasn't found you?
When it hasn't found you?
The lyrics of Kimberley Locke's song "I Could" discuss the conflict between being honest about one's feelings and pretending to be something that the other person desires. The singer contemplates pretending to love someone so as not to hurt them and give them the happiness they desire. She acknowledges that she could be everything they want her to be, but she is still incapable of giving them her heart and everything they want. The chorus highlights the idea that one should not give their life to something that has not found them yet.
The lyrics suggest that the singer is aware that the person she is with is not the one for her, and she doesn't want to give them false hope or a false sense of happiness. As the song progresses, the singer realizes that she cannot be dishonest with the person she loves even if it means letting them down. She acknowledges that it's not fair to pretend or to make promises she can't keep. The song ends with the singer imploring the listener to not give their entire life to something that may not be true love.
"I Could" is an introspective look at the choices we make in relationships and whether it's better to fake happiness or be honest. It additionally questions the inevitability of finding true love and highlights the importance of honesty.
