Largs
King Creosote Lyrics

So who would care if nothing
comes out of this morning
but a day full of sea
and a night full of sun
and a deck that's all broken
but some are holding on
each of us is as backwards
coming forwards
saying this for me
while you keep me stum
my mind is still as blind
'cause that postcard is barely begun
so would you open this gate and be over first
to that summer and our care and fun parks
while the kids go matin' and kicking up sand
I should take this chance
to show I'll find the queen of vice screams
she'll show us how to dance
if she do not go away first
in 1990'ers the number of manit passed

The water here doesn't get any warmer
she wouldn't let me
getting anywhere near her
I'm just looking for advance then already only remorse
or at least share a sight here
while sitting beside her
I'm cute and I'm rich but maybe she is wiser
cannot I'm falling baby
cannot I'm only from Largs
so would you open this gate and be over first
to that summer and our care and fun parks
while the kids go matin' and kicking up sand
they're kicking up sand

so would you open this gate and be over first
to that summer and our care and fun parks
while the kids go matin' and kicking up sand
I should take this chance
to show I'll find the queen of vice screams
she'll show us how to dance
if she do not go away first

Overall Meaning

The song "Largs (Long)" by King Creosote is a reflective ballad about the beauty and disappointments of life. The lyrics paint a picture of a day full of sea and a night full of sun, but also a deck that's all broken and some people holding on. The singer acknowledges that everyone is a bit backwards and unsure, trying to move forward in their own way. The imagery of a postcard that's barely begun adds to the sense of incomplete experiences and unrealized potential. The singer yearns for a chance to open the gate to summer and fun parks, to show that they can find the queen of vice screams and learn how to dance. The repetition of the line "so would you open this gate and be over first" suggests a desire to take action and move forward, while also acknowledging the possibility of being left behind.

The lyrics capture a sense of longing and uncertainty, as well as the fleeting nature of life and experiences. The references to the water being cold and the singer being from Largs add to the sense of isolation and longing for something more.

Overall, "Largs (Long)" is a poignant and introspective song that invites reflection on the beauty and disappointments of life, as well as the importance of taking chances and seizing opportunities.

Used to Live up the Road from Largs In West Kilbride Were my Mum Came From.. Made the Strenuous Journey down to the Viking Cinema to see the Latest Film. I would be 11 at the time. We would Jump off the Largs Pier and Swim on the Backs of the Baskin Sharks as they Made there way to Iceland. And get a Jellyfish Hair Doo. Wonderful Times. Then Get the Ferry across to Milport. Also see the Hovercraft Whizzing by. great Days. Brilliant Track.

Neil Bain

I was too young for the hovercraft but I mind the Keppel and the Waverley of course, and the Ritz Cafe by the Town Pier on the island.
