Someone
King K.O.N.G. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Knew that it was wrong the first night I met you
When I sneaked back into bed and you said, "I love you"
Up in this house, blood runs cold
Secret codes, are all we know

We gotta tear it all down, set it on fire
Watch it burn to the ground, it kills us just a little
But a little's alright, 'cause, oh, it ain't forever
You'll find someone, find someone who loves you better
Yeah, you'll find someone, find someone who loves you better
Babe, you'll find the one, you'll find someone

Your friends have always liked me but I told you that you shouldn't listen
'Cause picking wings off of angels, has always been my religion
You been stickin' 'round far too long
And I've been runnin' 'round and it just feels wrong

We gotta tear it all down, set it on fire
Watch it burn to the ground, it kills us just a little
But a little's alright, 'cause, oh, it ain't forever
You'll find someone, find someone who loves you better
Yeah, you'll find someone, find someone who loves you better
Babe, you'll find the one, you'll find someone

We gotta tear it all down, set it on fire
Watch it burn to the ground, it kills us just a little
But a little's alright, 'cause, oh, it ain't forever
You'll find someone, find someone who loves you better
Whoa, babe, you'll find someone

Yeah, someone who could love you better
Whoa, babe, you'll find the one, you'll find someone

Overall Meaning

In "Someone" by King K.O.N.G., the singer reveals feelings of guilt and hesitation from the beginning of their relationship. The lyrics portray a sense of knowing that the relationship is problematic, as highlighted in the line, "Knew that it was wrong the first night I met you." Despite this realization, there are conflicting emotions expressed when the partner professes love, creating a sense of turmoil within the singer.

The imagery of the house with "blood runs cold" and "secret codes" suggests a sense of secrecy and dysfunction within the relationship. The idea of tearing it all down and setting it on fire conveys a desire to break free from the toxic dynamic. The act of watching it burn to the ground symbolizes a necessary destruction, even though it causes pain. The repetition of "You'll find someone who loves you better" indicates a form of self-sacrifice for the partner's well-being, suggesting a desire for them to find happiness elsewhere.

The singer acknowledges their own destructive tendencies, mentioning how they have always been drawn to causing harm, likening it to "picking wings off of angels." This admission of guilt and acknowledgment of their own flaws adds a layer of complexity to the song. The repeated refrain of "find someone who loves you better" emphasizes the belief that the partner deserves more than what the singer can offer, even if it means letting go.

The song concludes with a sense of resolution and hope for the future, as the singer encourages the partner to find someone who can love them better. The repetition of "You'll find the one, you'll find someone" conveys a sense of optimism and acceptance of the inevitable separation. Ultimately, "Someone" by King K.O.N.G. explores themes of guilt, self-awareness, and the bittersweet notion of parting ways for the sake of finding true love and fulfillment.

In case some people didn’t know, King Kong was natives’ guardian. They weren’t scare of him but thanked him with a human.

@SeanNotConnery where is this art book available?

That's another way of looking at it. Never thought about that.

@Luyolo Menziwa The wall was built by a civilization that died off prior to the arrival of the Islanders that were encountered by the crew of the Venture.

In Peter Jackson's Kong, Skull Island is an extremely unstable landmass that is in the process of sinking into the sea. I believe the art book (which is made to look like an expedition field diary) states that by the 1950s Skull Island had completely sunk into the water, swallowed up by the very waves that had protected it from the outside world for millions of years.

I really wish we had gotten a sequel of some kind based around the expeditions that occurred after Kong's death in 1933 (said expeditions are mentioned in the art book, so it's already cannon and basically half-written already.) There's just too many brilliant creatures and lore that didn't make it into the movie.

...and I didn't realize back then that this was from the same guy who gave us the Nazguls from Lord of the Rings (shivers). Seriously, Fellowship of the Ring scared me so much I actually did not watch LotR trilogy until I was in college!
