In 1988, Appice decided to dissolve the band and join guitarist John Sykes for his Blue Murder project in 1989.
A new King Kobra emerged in 2010 with Carmine Appice on drums, Paul Shortino taking over vocal duties, Mick Sweda on guitar, David Henzerling (a.k.a. David Michael-Philips) on guitar, and Johnny Rod on bass. This lineup released the self-titled album King Kobra in 2011 on Frontiers Records and another album in 2013, titled King Kobra II.
The band went on hiatus following the release of their 2013 album, largely due to the other commitments of the individual band members, They played live gigs again in 2016 without Mick Sweda.
A new album called We Are Warriors will be released on August 11, 2023. The title track was released as a single online via Spotify on July 18, 2023. The line up features new guitarists Carlos Cavazo, from Quiet Riot fame, and Rowan Robertson, once Dio guitarist.

But through the smoke filtered light
I saw the tears in your eyes
You knew our love was on the line
It was the second time
That this fool believed your lies
You'll never change
But you threw it all away, oh
What are you looking for
When you're walking out that door
I hope it can be found
Maybe you'll find love the second time around
Our love was my mistake
I knew that it would take
So much more than I could give
I hope we can be friends
'Cause I know that in the end
It's how you and I were meant to live
But I hope you change
So when you find a good thing, girl
You won't throw it all away, no, no
What are you looking for
When you're walking out that door
I hope it can be found
Maybe you'll find love the second time around
Second time around, ooh-ooh...
Second time around, time around
Yeah
Ooh, baby
What are you looking for
When you're walking out that door
I hope it can be found
Maybe you'll find love the second time around
What are you looking for
When you're walking out that door
I hope it can be found
Maybe you'll find love the second time around
Na-na, na-na, na-na
The second time around
Na-na, na-na, na-na
And you'll find love the second time around
Na-na, na-na, na-na
I hope you find the second time around
Na-na, na-na, na-na
The second time around
Na-na, na-na, na-na
The second time around
Na-na, na-na, na-na
The second time around
The song "Second Time Around" by King Kobra is a reflection on a failed relationship. The lyrics evoke a sense of disappointment and regret as the singer looks back on a past love affair that fell apart despite their efforts to make it work. The singer addresses the person he was in the relationship with, saying that they knew love was on the line but still chose to throw it away. They acknowledge that the relationship was their own mistake, knowing that it required more than they could give.
Despite the bitterness, the singer expresses hope for the future. They hope that the other person changes and doesn't throw away a good thing next time around. The chorus suggests that there could be a chance for love again, that maybe the other person will find what they're looking for the second time around.
Overall, the lyrics of the song are heavily focused on the theme of growth and learning from past mistakes. The singer seems to have accepted that the relationship wasn't meant to be, but still wishes the other person well and hopes that they will find happiness in the future.
