Newport
Kinski Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Run
To the beach-house
Stay there
'Til you get my phone-call

Lie low
Don't do anything
If we get out of this mess
It'll be a godsend

Overall Meaning

Upon first listen, Kinski’s “Newport” could be easily misinterpreted as a beachy, carefree tune. However, beneath the catchy surf-rock guitar riffs and crooning vocals lies a darker message. The song begins with the singer telling someone to run to a beach house and wait for a phone call. It quickly becomes clear that this person is in trouble and needs to lay low. The singer tells them to not do anything and wait for further instructions. The line “If we get out of this mess, it’ll be a godsend” implies that there has been a wrongdoing that the two need to escape from.
