Hostage
Klangstof Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You take the sick mind for hostage
Hostage
I ran for shelter but I got here
Mind you
There is no time to see the sideview
Boring
Spiralling down towards the mouth
You're howling
They say it's alright to bury the mind
In a dark place
For what, comes what
For what, comes what
The song "Hostage" by Klangstof is a hauntingly introspective piece, with lyrics touching upon themes of mental illness, inner turmoil and existential dread. The repeated refrain "You take the sick mind for hostage" seems to suggest a sense of powerlessness, as if one's own mind has turned against them and taken control. The feeling of being trapped is further emphasized in the second line "I ran for shelter but I got here", creating a sense of futility, as if there is no escape from the emotional state in question.
The second verse continues to explore the inner turmoil of the singer, highlighting the distance between the self and the world outside. The line "There is no time to see the sideview" suggests a sense of urgency, as if the singer is unable to take a step back and gain perspective on their situation. The juxtaposition of the past and present ("I was a king and now I'm falling") adds to the feeling of loss and disillusionment. The final lines of the song are particularly intriguing, with the repeated refrain ("For what, comes what") creating a sense of cyclical inevitability – almost as if the singer is caught in a never-ending loop of despair.
Overall, "Hostage" is a powerful and poignant exploration of the complexities of the human mind, and the struggles that many of us face on a daily basis.

Honestly this is probably one of the best, if not, the best song of 2016 so far. Major Radiohead vibes - love it. So much emotion and the ending of this song just sounds like it could be a huge anthem - wish this track got more attention.
