The band released their first studio album, Laugh Tracks, on September 16, 2016, and followup, A Different Shade of Blue, on August 23, 2019, both through Pure Noise Records.
For A Tear in the Fabric of Life, Knocked Loose wanted to do something different. Or they may have been forced to. With quarantine upending their extensive touring schedule — “we’ve kind of been consistently on the road since 2014,” says vocalist Bryan Garris — the group found themselves in early 2020 sequestered near Louisville, in Oldham County, Ky., where they’re from. By June, they were hunkered down in a cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., focused on writing a concept album. By the end of September they had finished recording.
What they came up with is a six song-EP that expands on the narratives hinted at on A Different Shade of Blue, their 2019 full length, and grows beyond them sonically. It’s the band’s most dynamic and contained offering to date, and a balancing act: a mid-length EP with grand ambitions and scope, one full of new sonic elements and a cohesive aesthetic that hangs onto Knocked Loose’s trademark anthemic delivery.

Knocked Loose Lyrics

Rooted from a place of intolerance
I won't cater to a coward
That hides behind a fraternity
Just so he can feel empowered
Institutions supporting murder
No, I won't support it
I feel the pressure to be like you
Forced into a life of repentance
Searching out for a cure
Made to believe that acceptance
Is all that were looking for
Is what we need
Oblivion's Peak
But in the end
When it's your turn to be judged
You'll get what you fucking deserve
You son of a bitch
One by one
Oblivion's peak
The song Oblivions Peak by Knocked Loose addresses issues of intolerance and cowardice, specifically referencing fraternities and institutions that support murder. The first verse condemns individuals who hide behind their fraternity as a means of feeling empowered, but ultimately succumb to the pressure to conform. The second verse touches on the idea of forced repentance and searching for a cure while being convinced that acceptance is the key to happiness.
The chorus introduces the concept of Oblivion's Peak, which seems to imply a final judgment of some kind. The song's message seems to suggest that those who live their lives as cowards, intolerant and in support of murder, may end up at the peak of Oblivion - a place of no return or eternal oblivion. The final verse expresses the singer's anger towards these individuals and vows that they will ultimately get what they deserve.
