Mars
Knows Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's too much sand
And there's too much heat
There's only other guys here that I get to meet
I pitched my Arab tent on Millennium Dune
Id rather live on the dark side of the moon

Isaac Asimov said Mars is a smash
I want to go dancing with a slip of a lass
The other guys here they act pretty mean
This is the lousiest planet I've ever seen

There are no girls on Mars
No celebrity parties, no cocktail bars
Hey, mama I'm coming home

I want planet Earth I want cooling rain
The other guys here are driving me insane
The sun comes up and it never goes down
I live in Capsule 69 in Rocket Town

There are no girls on Mars
No hot tub parties that go too far
Hey, mama I'm coming home

My mama told me:
Hang on in there, son
When you return to Earth
You'll be sure to find someone
I know that you feel
That you might have gone too far
But never forget, my son
You will always be my red star

Everything thing I eat tastes of Martian sand
I wanna jump and jive to an Earthbound band
This is no place for a red-blooded guy
I wanna come down
Don't wanna live in the sky

There are no girls on Mars

No Marilyn Monroe no Hedy Lamarr
Hey, mama Im coming home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Knows's song "Mars" depict the singer's longing for Earth while being stranded on the desolate planet Mars. The song begins by highlighting the inhospitable conditions of Mars, emphasizing the abundance of sand and extreme heat. The only companionship the singer finds on Mars are "other guys" who he meets but doesn't seem to connect with. The reference to pitching an Arab tent on the Millennium Dune could imply the singer's attempt to find some semblance of comfort and familiarity in this foreign environment. However, despite his efforts, he expresses a preference for living on the dark side of the moon, suggesting his deep dissatisfaction with Mars.

The lyrics also mention Isaac Asimov, a renowned science fiction writer, who said "Mars is a smash." This line could be interpreted as the singer clinging to the hope and fascination that initially drew him to Mars, perhaps drawn by the romanticized idea of exploring a new frontier. The desire to go dancing with a "slip of a lass" could represent the singer's longing for human connection and intimacy that cannot be fulfilled on Mars.

The chorus of the song, "There are no girls on Mars, no celebrity parties, no cocktail bars," reinforces the singer's sense of isolation and the lack of the vibrant and social life he yearns for. He expresses his intention to return to Earth, longing for the familiar comforts of the planet, such as cooling rain and Earth-bound parties. The central theme of the song seems to revolve around loneliness, the longing for companionship, and the desire to escape the desolation of Mars and return to a more vibrant and fulfilling existence on Earth.

LYRICS

[Intro]
And I noticed I now know this

[Verse 1]
In the end there is no one
There is no one to call your bluff
In the end there is no one high above

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Who really can say?
There's only one way to play the game
I noticed I now know this

[Chorus]
And I noticed I now know this
I now know this, I now know this
And I noticed I now know this
I now know this, I now know this

[Verse 2]
In the end there is nothing
There is nothing beyond the truth
In the end there is only what we do

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Try, try as they may
Running in circles with nothing to say
I noticed I now know this

[Chorus]
And I noticed I now know this
I now know this, I now know this
And I noticed I now know this
I now know this, I now know this

[Interlude]
See, only one thing's for sure
I'm not knocking on Heaven's door
What's up above or underneath
Is not for man alone to preach
Sometimes fail and sometimes win
With all our powers here within

[Outro]
I noticed I now know this
And I noticed I now know this

@sui101

I don't know how accurate this is, but here's the lyrics I get from this song:

In the end there is no one.
There is no one to call your bluff.
In the end there is no one, high above.
Who really can say.
There's only one way to play the game.

I know this.
And I know this.

In there is nothing.
There is nothing beyond the truth.
In the end there is only what we do.
Try, try as they may.
Running in circles with nothing to say.

I know this.
And I know this.

See only one thing's for sure.
I'm not knocking on Heaven's door.
What's up above, or underneath?
Is not for man I long to preach.
Sometimes fail and sometimes win.
But all the power's here within.

I know this.
And I know this.

I've no words to describe this masterpiece... The first time I've heard this song, I was still in shock after listening Calling... I mean...when the bass kicks in...wow. Definitely my favorite song in the album. Keep it up Overwerk 󾓧󾓧

@jannevot8515

You should listen to Daybreak, it's my favorite, you'll love it.

@kindapanda8998

this is probably one of my favorite songs of the album.. I'm usually not a big fan of vocals in Overwerk's songs but the voice here sounds just beautiful and gives life to the track. also love the build up and the twisted electro vibes afterwards, makes it sound majestic and emotional
